Building Services Group boosts profits and continues to grow

According to a press release, the Burkhalter Group has closed the 2025 financial year with “excellent results”. All relevant key performance indicators have once again improved compared with the previous year. The building services provider recorded revenue growth of 1.8 per cent to CHF 1.2 billion, as well as a 6 per cent increase in EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) to CHF 73.8 million and a consolidated profit of CHF 61.3 million (previous year: CHF 57.2 million, up 7.3 per cent). Earnings per share rose to CHF 5.78, representing an increase of 7.2 per cent on the previous year. As a result of this positive performance, the Board of Directors is proposing an increased dividend of CHF 5.20 per share to the Annual General Meeting.

The drivers of growth are sustained high demand for building services engineering and efficiency gains from optimised and digitalised processes. Targeted acquisitions also contributed to the positive performance. In 2025, the Group acquired Mathieu Ingenieure AG in Visp (VS) and Gattiker Elektro GmbH in Uster (ZH). Four further acquisitions followed at the start of 2026: BZ-Dépannage Sàrl in Lonay, Vaud; Enplan AG in Herisau, Appenzell Ausserrhoden; Elektro Gasser AG in Lalden, Valais; and Caotec SA in Brusio, Graubünden. According to the company, this strengthens the Burkhalter Group’s regional presence, expands its expertise and increases its market share. The acquisition strategy remains a central component of growth.

The company is confident about the 2026 financial year. Driven by government support programmes and continued high levels of construction activity, demand for energy-efficient building services solutions remains strong. The Group expects to be able to achieve a moderate increase in earnings per share for the 2026 financial year as well.

Record sales of Swiss multinational speciality chemicals group

Sika set a new sales record in the 2024 financial year. At 11.76 billion Swiss francs, the record result of 2023 was exceeded by 4.7 percent, the global speciality chemicals company for construction and industry announced in a press release. Increased synergies from the integration of the construction chemicals business MBCC acquired in 2022 and local acquisitions of Kwik Bond in the USA, Vinaldom in the Dominican Republic and Chema in Peru contributed to the sales growth. Organic sales growth amounted to 1.1 per cent.

In addition to the acquisitions, all regions contributed to the record sales. At 11.2 per cent in local currencies, sales growth was strongest in the Americas region. In the EMEA and Asia/Pacific regions, growth rates of 7.3 and 2.4 percent respectively were realised in local currencies.

“Over the past twelve months, Sika has successfully held its own in a market environment that remains very challenging and achieved a new sales record,” said Thomas Hasler, CEO, in the press release. “Our growth initiatives, our powerful and sustainable innovations and our consistent sales strategy for further market penetration are successful and impressively demonstrate that we are gaining further market share.” Sika will communicate its full Annual Report 2024 on 21 February. The Group expects operating profit at EBITDA level to increase at a faster rate than sales.

  • Acquisitions drive Poenina's growth

    Acquisitions drive Poenina's growth

According to a statement by Poenina Holding AG , the building technology company from the Glattal generated operating income of CHF 383.2 million in the 2021 financial year. In a year-on-year comparison, this corresponds to growth of 26.8 percent. The operating result at EBIT level increased by 41.3 percent to CHF 21.2 million in the same period. A net profit of CHF 16.9 million was booked, which is 34.1 percent more than in 2020.

In the statement, Poenina states “two inorganic effects” as the background to the development of sales. On the one hand, three acquisitions in the financial year are mentioned here. On the other hand, the merger with Caleira AG in June 2020 had an impact over an entire reporting year for the first time. Poenina attributes the increase in profitability to “continued internal process improvements” and the waning impact of the pandemic.

In January of this year, Poenina announced the start of merger negotiations with the Burkhalter Group , which specializes in electrical engineering. The background is the Energy Strategy 2050 planned by the federal government. “In the course of the constructive merger talks”, the board of directors is now applying for the implementation of the merger, Poenina informs in the press release. Poenina is to be merged into Burkhalter and Poenina shares are to be exchanged for newly created Burkhalter shares at a ratio of 1 to 0.73. The approval of the general meetings of both companies is still pending.
