Halter realizes winning project in Emmen

At the Seetalplatz in Emmen, a new development with a variety of uses for all sections of the population is to be built. There was a competition for this, in which six architects' offices took part. According to the press release , the study drawn up by Westpol Landschaftsarchitektur from Basel together with Dreier Frenzel architecture + communication from Lausanne emerged as the winner and is recommended for further processing.

On behalf of the Rüüssegg housing cooperative, the planning and implementation of the superstructure will be carried out under the leadership of Halter AG . Completion of the entire development on the relevant construction sites is scheduled for the end of 2026.

The Rüüssegg housing cooperative based in Lucerne is the holder of the building right. It was founded by Halter AG and the non-profit housing cooperative Wir sind Stadtgarten after they, as a bidding consortium, had been awarded the building lease by the Lucerne government council in June 2021.

The winning concept "offers an opportunity for social interaction, communication and exchange between residents and users," says the managing director of the Rüüssegg housing cooperative, Thomas Häusler.

"In addition to a well-balanced mix of apartments in terms of price and space, the project also provides age-appropriate housing, commercial, office and studio space, which allows for a mix and social diversity," says Peter Lötscher, Head of Portfolio Management at the Canton of Lucerne's Real Estate Office. This also fulfills the mandate of the cantonal parliament.

  • Two new buildings turn the arsenal area in Uster into a cultural center

Two new buildings turn the arsenal area in Uster into a cultural center

The city of Uster wants to create a culture and meeting center on the arsenal area. An architecture competition was announced for this in autumn 2018. The jury awarded the “KUZU” project by EM2N Architects, Zurich, with first place and recommended the project to the city council for further processing.

The “KUZU” project complements the existing armory with two simple buildings that differ in size and structure: the “Culture Shelf” and the “Culture Hall”. The old building will remain, the historical substance will only be minimally rebuilt and renovated.

The eastern new building, the culture shelf, forms the new face of the city. It is planned as an open structure with redensification potential. A cladding made of corrugated polycarbonate sheets and wood should make the building appear light and permeable. A small hall with a stage and 120 seats, a restaurant, two small cinema halls with a bar and an exhibition room are planned for the culture shelf. The small hall and the cinema halls are to replace the Ustermer Kulturhaus Central, which will be demolished in the next few years.

A large event hall with 700 seats is to be built in the new western building, the Kultursaal. A parking garage is planned underneath. The culture hall is to serve as a replacement for the outdated city courtyard hall. The structure of the culture hall is filled with prefabricated concrete elements and thus appears more massive and closed than the culture shelf.

The buildings should be in an open courtyard figure, the “culture courtyard”, to each other. This should help with orientation and create a common center, where synergies of the different uses should also arise.

In the next two years or so, the project is to be concretized to such an extent that the population of Uster can definitely decide on the redesign and the building loan. The opening of the new culture and meeting center is planned for 2028.

  • Young Zurich architects win prizes

    Young Zurich architects win prizes

The canton of Zurich attracts good young architects. All three podium places of the Foundation Awards 2021 went to offices in the canton, and almost all of the award winners came from outside the country.

The Comte / Meuwly office in Zurich received first prize. The two Romands Adrien Comte and Adrien Meuwly were more interested in everyday life and nameless architecture than in building icons, the jury wrote in its reasoning . The work of the office included an extension of a prefabricated wooden house in Geneva as well as a canopy over an old building door and sails for a buvette. "At a time when many are looking for historical references and lovely colors, this minimalist hardness and lightness is surprising and fresh," said the jury.

Angel Solanellas Terés, Camiel Van Noten and Marianne Meister met at a workshop in Antwerp and are now working together in Zurich. You won over the jury with your projects for the Brigerberg residence in Ried-Brig VS and for the Köbö studio in Zurich.

Saikal Zhunushova from the Oekofacta office in Winterthur impressed with her gentle renovation of a Flarzhaus from 1832 in the Zurich Oberland. She also involved the family of the house in the work. The architect trained in Kyrgyzstan combines suggestions from her old and new homeland in her work. She brings the Kyrgyz yurt as a garden pavilion to Switzerland and energy-saving construction projects from Switzerland to Kyrgyzstan.

The Foundation Award has been honoring young Swiss architecture firms since 2010. The award is sponsored, among others, by the cultural television art-tv.ch , the architecture magazine “Hochparterre ”, the Swiss Architecture Museum in Basel and Swissbau.
