Winning project for high-rise building near Regensbergbrücke in Zurich

At the Regensberg Bridge in Zurich Oerlikon, SBB is planning an office building around 40 metres high with public uses on the ground floor. The winning project, developed by “Team Esch Sintzel”, makes skilful use of the challenging site shape and topography. It also achieves a high degree of energy self-sufficiency, which makes it particularly forward-looking.

Focus on efficient use and sustainability
The planned high-rise building will be 80 per cent energy self-sufficient. Thanks to advanced building technology, passive cooling and solar cells on the roof and façade, the building will be able to cover most of its own energy requirements. This fits in perfectly with SBB’s ambitious climate targets.

Eight office floors and public uses on the ground floor
The new building is being realised as a nine-storey commercial building, with flexible floor plans that are ideal for services, health and education. The ground floor will be enlivened by catering and retail spaces, while the outdoor space concept with a near-natural track level and barrier-free urban level will ensure a high quality of stay.

Public exhibition of the competition entries
The competition entries will be exhibited from 12 to 15 July 2024 on the 8th floor of the Franklinturm at Hofwiesenstrasse 349 in Zurich-Oerlikon. Interested parties can visit the exhibition from Friday to Sunday from 2 pm to 6 pm and on Monday from 11 am to 3 pm.

Framework plan for Zurich Oerlikon railway station south-west development site
The basis for the project is the “Zurich Oerlikon railway station south-west development site” framework plan drawn up in 2012 together with the City of Zurich. This defined an eight-storey building to the west of the Franklin Tower in terms of urban planning. The building permit requirements have been met and construction is scheduled to begin in 2027.

Energie 360° renovates its headquarters in Altstetten

Energie 360° wants to convert and repair its headquarters at Aargauerstrasse 182 in Altstetten, which was built in 2003. The energy supplier, which is majority owned by the city of Zurich , is investing almost 28 million francs in this. In its capacity as client representative, the Office for Buildings of the City of Zurich has now submitted the corresponding building application, the city administration and energy company inform in a joint statement . They expect construction to begin next spring.

The conversion work is intended to adapt the headquarters to the requirements of a modern working environment "with flexible and hybrid working concepts", according to the statement. For this purpose, the existing premises are to be redesigned “into an open office landscape” with correspondingly modernized building services. A large-scale photovoltaic system is planned for the facades and roof.

After a "strategic review", the management of Energie 360° has given up on initial considerations of adding a new building to the existing building, the statement explains further. Instead, the existing building should be optimized "for an efficient and result-oriented working environment". Jessenvollweider Architektur from Basel is responsible for the architectural concept.

By 2040, Energie 360° wants to switch its offer exclusively to energy from renewable sources. According to the announcement, the conversion of the headquarters is driving this “transformation of the company and enables targeted energy saving measures in our own operations”.

  • Graubünden begins renovation of the Plantahof

Graubünden begins renovation of the Plantahof

According to a press release , the canton of Graubünden is building a new, state-of-the-art conference center on the Plantahof site. 24.5 million francs are available for the development of the area.

The ground-breaking ceremony heralded the start of construction for a building that is intended to create the spatial and energetic conditions for the future. The Plantahof agricultural training and advice center will receive a “future-oriented, flexible infrastructure” in several construction steps. The new building is said to be an asset for the future education and training of the young generation of farmers and for advising farmer families.

Investing in the future means environmentally conscious building in accordance with the Minergie-P-Eco standard. This energy-efficient and resource-saving construction meets all “legal requirements and regulations in terms of energy, environmental and safety technology as well as disability law”.

The new building is urgently needed after more than 40 years of operation and considerable need for repairs, especially in the dining room, kitchen and accommodation. Gradually, first the accommodation, then the kitchen and the hall will be modernized. The architecture should “disentangle” the building areas and “structure the exterior and interior spaces of the facility precisely and with high quality”.

Planning and implementation is carried out by a consortium consisting of the Nickisch Walder Architects based in Flims GR, the planning office Planalytik with headquarters in Flums SG and a specialist planning team.

The canton is investing CHF 24.5 million in the construction project. The Graubünden electorate had approved the referendum on February 9, 2020. Construction can take place during ongoing operations. Completion is scheduled for spring 2025. In the canton of Graubünden, the conference center founded in 1896 plays a central role in training and further education for agriculture.

  • Litterna: Agreement finally reached

    Litterna: Agreement finally reached

The people of Visper associate numerous memories with the Litterna Hall, built in 1978, as the hall was the home ground of EHC Visp from 1979 to 2019. Before the hall was demolished, the farewell was duly celebrated with a party in autumn 2019 – and at the same time the new ice sports and event hall, the Lonza Arena, was inaugurated. There has been a legally binding district plan for the Litterna site since 2018, which provides for several mixed-use residential and commercial buildings. Accordingly, the client Swiss Prime Investment Foundation planned to start construction work on the four buildings in total after the demolition of the hall in autumn 2020. However, a resident's objection to the planning application delayed the approval process. Nevertheless, the building application was approved by the Visper municipal council in December 2020, and the objection was rejected: the municipality argued that the buildings and facilities would correspond to the purpose and the district plan. The objector took his complaint further and reached the State Council in spring 2021. The Valais government also rejected the appeal against the municipality's decision, whereupon the objector went to the cantonal court as the next instance. However, before the Valais judiciary could make a further decision, the objectors and the client reached an agreement.

The construction work on the approximately 15,700 m2 area, which is an important building block due to its location along the railway line and the proximity to the public transport hubs
nothing stands in the way of the overarching settlement development of Visp. The four buildings will contain 138 rental apartments, commercial premises on the ground floors, a day-care center and a retail store. The first apartments should not be ready for occupancy until autumn 2023 at the earliest. The client Swiss Prime Investment Foundation is investing around 70 million Swiss francs in the Visper location. Total contractor is Eiffage Suisse, the construction work is being carried out by the Volken Group.
