    Mobimo expands Aeschbach neighbourhood in Aarau

    Mobimo has laid the foundation stone for the Hofhaus and Hallenhaus buildings in Aarau’s Aeschbach neighbourhood with representatives from the authorities and its project partners, according to a press release. As part of the overall Torfeld Süd development area, the next stage in the expansion of the neighbourhood, which was revitalised in 2019, is thus being realised.

    Based on plans by Baumberger Stegmeier Architekten from Zurich, 126 rental flats with 1.5 to 5.5 rooms will be built there. The courtyard house is being realised as a timber construction with a garden courtyard in a future-oriented, ecological design. According to Mobimo, the hall building stands out positively in terms of sustainability and grey energy because as much of the existing façade of the former Hall 5 has been retained as possible. It will serve as the ground floor for the extension of the historic building.

    Completion is planned for autumn 2026, with occupancy scheduled for the second quarter of 2026. Marketing will begin in the third quarter of 2025. The Aeschbachquartier will then have a total of around 260 rental and owner-occupied flats. It will also offer around 4600 square metres of commercial space for 1400 people working there.

    Foundation stone laid for the modern swimming centre in Tenero

    The new swimming centre at CST, a renowned institution for youth sports, will revolutionise the centre of swimming in Switzerland. The existing outdoor facilities, including the 50-metre pool and diving towers, which have reached the end of their useful life, will be complemented by a state-of-the-art indoor swimming pool. This new centre will not only meet current needs, but will also set new standards in sports training and competition preparation.

    Laying of the foundation stone as a symbolic moment
    The ceremonial laying of the foundation stone on 15 May 2024 marks the start of construction work on the new indoor swimming pool. This event will be attended by important personalities such as Ticino Cantonal Councillor Marina Carobbio Guscetti, FOSPO Director Matthias Remund and BBL Deputy Director Martin Frösch. Also present will be Noè Ponti, an Olympic medallist, who will emphasise the importance of this new facility for the Swiss swimming community.

    The indoor swimming pool, which is scheduled for completion in mid-2027, will include an Olympic pool with a moving floor, a diving pool and a swimming channel. Additional facilities such as whirlpools, an ice bath and specialised areas for regeneration and strength training will complete the offer. Once the indoor swimming pool has been opened, the existing outdoor pool will also be renovated and extended to include a landing area for freestyle skiing.

    Visionary planning and long-term goals
    With an investment volume of CHF 91.8 million, approved by the Federal Assembly at the end of 2021, the swimming centre in Tenero will become a central hub for the development of swimming in Switzerland. The planned facilities are designed to optimally prepare athletes for national and international competitions while also supporting scientific research and performance diagnostics.

    The opening of the indoor swimming pool and the subsequent realisation of the outdoor facilities will transform the CST into a top destination for athletes and teams from all over the world, thus strengthening Switzerland’s position in the international sporting arena.

The aim is to make Winterthur more efficient, progressive and sustainable thanks to the networking of new technologies and stakeholders.

    in 2018, Winterthur’s city council adopted a strategy that defines goals and thematic areas, regulates organisational anchoring and implementation, defines the necessary resources for planning and implementation, and identifies possible projects and measures. The Smart City Winterthur aims to create an innovative, progressive and networked city that focuses on people and the environment. Thanks to the intelligent networking of infrastructures with modern technologies and the involvement of relevant stakeholders, these goals are to be achieved and the city is to be perceived as an attractive cooperation partner for companies, the population and educational and research institutes.

    Innovations within the administration and at the Winterthur location are to be promoted together with various partners. The programme covers important topics such as energy, mobility, smart government, education and innovation as well as housing, health and ageing. Thanks to an annual innovation credit, Smart City projects – such as the climate simulation using the example of Lokstadt – can be implemented.

    The smart city strategy is currently being revised after about four years of experience.

    With its construction project for the Rieter Campus, Rieter is committed to the Winterthur location and to Switzerland as a business location, according to a press release from the textile machine manufacturer. The foundation stone for the new customer and technology center as well as the administration building was laid on Wednesday. The company, which has been based in Winterthur for 225 years, is investing around 80 million francs in this

    From 2024, the Rieter campus is to offer space for around 700 workplaces on a floor area of over 30,000 square meters. To this end, the company developed an open room concept with a specialist in office architecture. With heat generation via geothermal probes and a 1,300 square meter photovoltaic system, Rieter is relying on renewable energies. “The entrepreneurial focus on sustainable and energy-efficient solutions for yarn production is thus reflected in the overall concept of the campus,” CEO Norbert Klapper is quoted as saying.

    In the course of its company history, Rieter has helped shape the city of Winterthur, said Chairman of the Board of Directors Bernhard Jucker. “Now, with the new campus, the foundation is being laid for the future as a leading technology company.”
