Sika strengthens its presence in Peru

Sika is acquiring Chema, a leading manufacturer of mortar products in Peru, primarily for tile installation, according to a media release. With this acquisition, the Baar-based specialty chemicals company is expanding its position in the South American country’s so-called building finishing sector, according to the release. The expansion of distribution channels will create “exciting opportunities for cross-selling complementary products such as sealants and adhesives, liquid membranes and waterproofing systems”, Sika said.

Chema’s four modern plants and seven warehouses ensured nationwide coverage of production and distribution. Chema achieved sales of the equivalent of CHF 50 million in 2022 with tile adhesives, grouts and other complementary products. The company supplies smaller specialist shops in addition to DIY shops and building material retailers.

“Through our joint business activities and improved market access, we have an excellent basis for further growth and a strong position in the Peruvian market,” Regional Head Americas, Christoph Ganz, is quoted as saying. “With the nationwide geographic presence, we strengthen our strategic focus on major cities and our offering of complete solutions for new and existing customers.”

Innovation Park Zurich wins Angst+Pfister as investor

The Innovation Park Zurich(IPZ) has gained Angst+Pfister as an investor. The globally active Zurich-based manufacturer of high-performance components and engineering solutions has acquired a significant stake in IPZ Property AG, which is responsible for realising the project, the Zurich Innovation Park Foundation informs in a statement. “For the first time, a well-known industrial partner from Switzerland is participating as an investor in the Innovation Park Zurich,” foundation president Peter Bodmer is quoted there.

For Christof Domeisen, CEO and Delegate of the Board of Directors of Angst+Pfister, the Zurich Innovation Park is “by far the most exciting development project in Switzerland”. His company is convinced “that the close interlocking of research and development in one place creates an ideal platform to be successful in the future”. Domeisen sees precisely these conditions fulfilled at the Zurich Innovation Park on the grounds of the Dübendorf airfield.

The implementation of the project has successfully completed its political process with the now legally binding approval of the commitment credit by the Zurich Cantonal Council. Next, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich and the University of Zurich are to take over the existing aircraft hangars on the site. An architectural competition is already underway for the new buildings in the first phase of development. In addition, “more and more companies are interested in locating on the IPZ,” explains Andrea Claudio Thöny, head of IPZ Property AG. “Since the political decisions have been made, things are now moving ahead quickly.”

Hilcona installs new solar power plant

The Hilcona Group has installed a photovoltaic system at its Landquart site. The international food producer invested CHF 920,000 in this. The almost 4,000 square meter solar power plant produces up to 830 megawatt hours of electricity per year, which according to a press release is sufficient for around 165 households.

The head of quality management and sustainability, Oliver Bindel, is quoted as saying that the Hilcona catchment area already uses 100 percent hydropower. "Our electricity is already 100 percent renewable today." Hilcona wants to further expand its own electricity production and gradually reduce the proportion of purchased electricity.

"Lighthouse projects such as the current one at the Hilcona site in Landquart show that Hilcona is not too big a project to have net zero CO2 emissions in the long term. It is important to us to make a positive contribution to achieving global climate goals.”
