    The Circle: Switzerland's largest Minergie building certified

    Minergie and LEED certification has been an integral part of planning and construction at the Circle for 12 years.     Beautiful, functional, climate-optimized
    With a good 200,000 m 2 energy reference area, the circle accounted for 6% of the certified Minergie area in the year of provisional certification, but was only one of around 1,900 buildings. This shows the size and importance of this extraordinary building in the Swiss context. The Circle is the largest Minergie-certified building in Switzerland. According to government councilor Marc Mächler, the Minergie certificate means that – in addition to all other requirements and uses – the building is also climate-optimized. Climate-optimized means «that this building does not accelerate climate change and that it uses resources carefully. It is efficient and works almost entirely with renewable energy instead of fossil energy.”

    Thanks to intensive cooperation between the Minergie certification body and those responsible for the circle, the high requirements of the Minergie quality label for the building envelope and ventilation could also be met. Andreas Meyer Primavesi, Managing Director of Minergie, is pleased that the result ultimately benefits everyone: “Especially with today’s energy prices, every kilowatt hour of energy saved is worth it – not only for the climate, but also financially”.

    Into the net-zero energy future
    With the leading Swiss building label Minergie, more than 12 million tons of CO 2 and 67 million megawatt hours of energy have been saved since 1998 thanks to over 53,000 Minergie buildings compared to the minimum legal requirements. Minergie certifies around 3 million m 2 of energy reference area per year. In close coordination with the cantons, Minergie always leads the way and is therefore a pioneer in cantonal energy laws. This interaction has worked since the beginning and continues successfully. Minergie is currently looking very closely at the energy used and the greenhouse gas emissions in the construction of a building. And secondly, Minergie is striving to improve the operating phase: Extensive, digitized building data is used to measure the energy flows during operation in order to then carry out operational optimization where necessary on the basis of the monitoring. For years, fossil-free operation – even with modernization – Minergie is moving more and more towards net zero. The Minergie-A-ECO standard comes closest to the Swiss net-zero building.

    HRS Real Estate AG from Frauenfeld would like to build a b_smart hotel on the SaurerWerk-Zwei site in Arbon, according to a media release . The real estate company has now submitted a planning application for the hotel and a neighboring building with 18 condominiums. The hotel is to have 63 hotel rooms, and catering with 70 seats, fitness and meeting rooms are also planned.

    The project is related to the closed Hotel Metropol. After its demolition, the Riva project will be implemented on the site. At a round table, an agreement was reached that Riva "with a restaurant, hall, bar, garden terrace and additional overnight accommodation is architecturally the right property in the right place," says the message. HRS has therefore decided to push ahead with the plans for the b_smart hotel. Originally, the company was of the opinion that the “economically necessary and necessary prerequisites for a new hotel would only be met with the construction of Riva”. But now it is making advance payments to create new overnight accommodations in Arbon.

    HRS works with the Liechtenstein company b_smart selection from Gamprin-Bendern. It already operates 16 hotels and motels in Liechtenstein and Switzerland. It relies on a so-called self-check-in concept, through which guests can book around the clock and check in on site. The Toni Hilti family trust and the Toni Hilti family from Liechtenstein are involved as investors in the hotel project.

    St.Gallen gets a new hotel

    HRS Real Estate AG will start work on the renovation of the Villa Wiesental and a new hotel building on April 26, according to a media release . The building permit was recently received by HRS and the City of St.Gallen Pension Fund. Since the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony will not take place due to the corona situation, the initiators are planning a ceremonial laying of the foundation stone for June.

    The combination of Villa Wiesental renovation and new hotel building is an "excellent urban development solution", according to HRS Real Estate. Both the historical building and the urban development in the Bahnhof Nord district are taken into account. After the renovation, the Pension Fund Stadt St.Gallen would like to offer representative office space in the Villa Wiesental.

    After the planned construction period of two years, the new hotel will be operated by Hotel Wiesental St.Gallen AG. It will have around 100 rooms. Both the hotel's parking area and the publicly accessible ground floor should contribute to the revitalization and upgrading of the quarter.
