    New logistics centre to be built in Hunzenschwil

    ERNE AG Bauunternehmung from Laufenburg is constructing a modern logistics centre for Lagerhäuser Aarau AG in Hunzenschwil, according to a press release. The new industrial building comprises a high-bay warehouse and office space. The 130-metre-long and 100-metre-wide building has a total volume of 364,043 cubic metres.

    The schedule for the shell construction is clearly defined: completion is scheduled for 9 December 2026. Halfway through the construction period, the building must already have reached its full height in the high-bay warehouse area. In order to meet these requirements, ERNE is relying on digital construction processes and a virtual overall model (Virtual Design and Construction), which maps all construction stages in detail. This enables construction processes to be planned precisely, trades to be optimally coordinated and interfaces and potential conflicts to be identified at an early stage.

    Around 50 employees and four Wolff WK 7534 cranes are in operation every day on the large construction site. For the concreting work, around 31,000 cubic metres of concrete are produced and processed on site with the aid of a mobile concrete plant, including water drainage. Once the foundation work has been completed, the walls and ceilings of the centre will follow. Once the floor slab has been completed, one of the 120 ceiling stages, each covering an area of 300 to 350 square metres, will be concreted every other day on average. The structural connection between the new building and the existing building will complete the shell construction work.

    Once completed, the extension will not only meet the growing demand for flexible storage and logistics solutions, but will also set new standards in automation, energy efficiency and sustainable construction, according to the announcement.

    Denner opened its third distribution centre for chilled products in Mägenwil on 2 February 2026. This is the food retailer’s response to the strong demand for these goods. According to a press release, it is the first chilled distribution centre to be certified according to the Minergie standard. Denner is creating 70 additional jobs there.

    The additional location will supply 250 of the 872 stores with fresh produce. Together with the three distribution centres for non-chilled goods, Denner will in future supply its branch network from six logistics locations.

    Denner is working on expanding its branch network and wants to add more fresh products to its range. The new building took two years to construct and, according to CEO Torsten Friedrich, “symbolises the growth” of Denner. The aim is to secure the logistics for the growing demand for fresh food. In addition, travel distances have been reduced. This could save 120,000 transport kilometres per year. A 10,000 square metre storage area has been created in Mägenwil. It allows more than 700 products to be stored and cooled at between 2 and 5 degrees Celsius.

    The Minergie certificate attests to the new building’s energy efficiency during operation. Waste heat from the energy-intensive operation of the cooling system is used for heating. The entire electricity requirement is generated by photovoltaic systems on the roof and on the south façade. In addition, eight charging stations for trucks and ten for passenger cars can be powered. Another new building for uncooled products is scheduled to go into operation in Aclens VD in 2027.

    Transstahl AG, which belongs to Pestalozzi, is to be able to transport long and bulky goods even more efficiently and flexibly throughout Switzerland in future. The Pestalozzi Group is therefore building a new logistics center in Pieterlen, for which the ground-breaking ceremony has now been held, according to a press release. In addition to representatives from Pestalozzi and Transstahl, Beat Rüfli, Mayor of Pieterlen, and Simon Enderli, Head of Location Promotion for the Canton of Bern, as well as other guests also took part in the ceremony.

    The logistics center will be 100 meters long, 30 meters wide and 12 meters high. An energy-efficient heating system is planned, as well as a photovoltaic system and charging stations for electric trucks and cars. A large proportion of the materials used come from the Pestalozzi Group, which specializes in steel technology and building services.

    “With this ground-breaking ceremony, we are investing in the development of our group of companies and making a clear commitment to Switzerland as a business location and to working in partnership with municipalities and regions,” Matthias Pestalozzi is quoted as saying in the press release. He is the owner and Delegate of the Board of Directors of the Pestalozzi Group.

    Spirig HealthCare AG has opened a new logistics centre in Wangen an der Aare, the Egerkingen-based pharmaceutical company specialising in generics announced in a press release. The 2600 square metre facility houses over 2000 picking stations as well as refrigerated and special warehouses. The amount of the investment, which has already created eight new jobs, is not disclosed in the press release.

    Spirig HealthCare intends to use the new logistics centre to increase its own storage capacities and make distribution more flexible. If necessary, medicines can be delivered to any location in Switzerland within a few hours using the company’s own fleet, the company writes.

    “Providing a reliable basic supply of important medicines in Switzerland is our core mission,” said Hans-Peter Borger, General Manager of Spirig HealthCare, in the press release. “With targeted investments in our own storage capacities, we are ensuring that we can fulfil this requirement. The new logistics centre stands for flexibility, speed and sustainable distribution – and is our clear commitment to security of supply.”

    State-of-the-art logistics project strengthens Lucerne as a business location

    Imbach Logistik AG from Schachen, a subsidiary of Galliker Transport AG from Altishofen LU, has opened a new logistics centre in Lucerne-Littau, according to a press release. The centre, which was designed to meet modern Industry 4.0 requirements, is “a strong sign for Lucerne as a business location” with its fully automated high-bay warehouse and a highly flexible small parts warehouse, according to the company. Imbach Logistik will create a total of 60 new jobs with the new centre following its completion in two construction phases.

    A special feature of the new centre is the spatial arrangement of the warehouses: in contrast to the horizontal positioning that is customary in the industry, the small parts warehouse is positioned vertically above the high-bay warehouse in order to maximise the use of space. Warehouse automation is made possible by the use of state-of-the-art shuttle technologies and an integrated warehouse management and material flow system developed by partners SSI Schäfer AG and EPG. Together with EPG’s LFS software, the Schäfer Flexi-Shuttle system coordinates storage and retrieval as well as upstream pick-and-pack processes with a high level of efficiency.

    Sustainability is also a focus at the site: the building, which has a volume of 215,000 cubic metres, is fully powered by a photovoltaic system with a capacity of 1,000 kilowatt peak, which produces around 1,150,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year. The heating and cooling supply is environmentally friendly thanks to a groundwater heat pump in combination with a freecooling system. “With the new Lucerne logistics centre, we are creating the basis for even more efficient and sustainable services for our customers. Industrial companies in the region in particular will benefit from state-of-the-art technology and customised logistics concepts,” says Christian Kempter-Imbach, Managing Director of Imbach Logistik AG, in the press release.

    Schenker Schweiz AG broke ground for the expansion of the national transport terminal in Eiken on 1 April 2025. According to a press release, the terminal is to be expanded by 9800 square metres to 15,400 square metres. The new transshipment warehouse is planned with an underground car park on two levels of 4900 square metres each. An office wing with social facilities is also to be created on the upper floor.

    A photovoltaic system will be installed on the roof of the new building, which is to be constructed in accordance with modern guidelines and will also supply charging stations for electric lorries. The main contractor for the building is Tierstein AG, which is responsible for the entire planning and execution.

    “With the modern extension, Schenker has additional capacity to further expand its land transport network,” said Basaran Yildirim, Head of Land Transport at Schenker Schweiz AG, in the press release. “We would like to thank the municipality of Eiken for its trust and the cooperation with all those involved in the project.”

    The Eiken site plays a central role for Schenker logistics for imports and exports by land due to its good transport connections on the north-west border of Switzerland.

    Rhenus Logistics AG will open its new Swiss logistics centre in Möhlin in January after a construction period of one and a half years. According to a press release, this will comprise a total of 30,000 storage spaces on a total area of 2,000 square metres.

    The logistics centre will be operated by around 80 employees working with 30 P40 robots from Chinese manufacturer Geek and seven RoboShuttles. This collaboration should enable time savings of 70 per cent. The building will also have special storage rooms for temperature-controlled goods and the storage of hazardous materials, for example.

    Power will be supplied by a photovoltaic system on the roof. This is expected to generate 1 million kilowatt hours per year.

    “Our new logistics centre in Möhlin is an impressive example of what modern logistics looks like: more automation and increased efficiency while simultaneously promoting jobs, sustainability goals and quality standards,” said Andreas Stöckli, CEO of Rhenus Alpina and a member of the Rhenus Group’s Management Board, in the press release.

    The Rhenus Group, which has its headquarters in Holzwickede in North Rhine-Westphalia and its Swiss headquarters in Basel, has a presence at 1,320 sites in more than 70 countries and generates an annual turnover of EUR 7.5 billion.

    Jansen, the steel systems supplier based in the St.GallenBodenseeArea, is planning to significantly expand the production site at its headquarters in Oberriet. According to the company, several million Swiss francs are to be invested in this. According to Jansen, this investment is a “clear commitment to the Oberriet site”. It is also intended to strengthen the company’s competitiveness.

    Jansen is planning to expand and rebuild several production halls in which window, door and façade elements will be manufactured. Their production had previously been carried out in the buildings of the acquired Rino Weder AG, but these have now become too small. Jansen will give up the former Rino Weder site in 2026. Instead, “ideal and state-of-the-art production conditions will be created” in the company’s own buildings.

    In addition, work will begin in mid-2025 on the installation of a modern powder coating facility, which is scheduled to go into operation in early 2026. This new production facility will replace the previous Rino Weder AG site. It is expected that the new facility will be able to coat up to 1600 square meters of surface every day. In addition to coating its own products, Jansen will also offer contract coating for external orders.

    In addition to the expansion of the production facilities, Jansen also intends to expand the company’s logistics area, according to the press release. In this context, the company plans to set up a pallet and small parts center with modern conveyor technology, self-propelled transport systems and modern workstations.

    Logistikcenter Luzern nimmt Form an

    Imbach Logistik errichtet im Littauerboden sein neues Logistikcenter Luzern. Im August 2020 war der Spatenstich für den Neubau  mit einer Gesamtfläche von rund 30’000 Quadratmeter erfolgt. Nun ist die Gebäudehülle fast fertiggestellt, informiert das zur Galliker Transport AG gehörende Unternehmen mit Sitz in Schachen.

    Das Ende der Bauarbeiten ist für Herbst 2024 vorgesehen. Einmal fertiggestellt sollen im neuen Logistikzentrum rund 60 Mitarbeiter beschäftigt sein. Das Lager werde ein vollautomatisiertes Hochregallager mit Stellplätzen für 6500 Paletten und ein ebenfalls vollautomatisiertes Kleinteilelager beinhalten, erläutert Imbach Logistik. Im Zuge der Arbeiten werden zudem von Imbach am Standort bereits betriebene alte Hallen abgerissen.

    Die Energie für das neue Logistizentrum will Imbach Logistik aus erneuerbaren Quellen gewinnen. Heizung und Kühlung des gesamten Gebäudes sollen mit Grundwasser erfolgen, eine auf dem Dach geplante Photovoltaikanlage ist auf eine jährliche Produktion von 950’000 Kilowattstunden Strom ausgelegt. Insgesamt investiert Imbach Logistik rund 60 Millionen Franken in das Projekt.

    Aktuell werden Haus- und Gebäudetechnik installiert und die Fördertechnik für Paletten und Behälter eingerichtet. Im Kleinteilelager sind bereits erste Arbeiten für die Inbetriebnahme angelaufen.
