    ZKB modernises network of locations

ZKB plans to invest a three-digit million amount in the modernisation of its network of locations over the next few years. “The physical presence on site and the proximity to our clientele is part of our DNA,” Steve Zurschmitten, Project Manager Sales and Market Area Manager Winterthur in Private Banking at ZKB, is quoted as saying in a statement from the bank. “That’s why we are also relying on the densest location network in the canton in the long term and are redesigning all of our 51 branches along a newly developed location concept.”

At the centre of the new concept is personal advice for private individuals and companies on important events. For everyday business, the branches offer digital self-service support. At some locations, the establishment of a so-called event zone is planned for events on topics such as owning a home or starting a business. Seminars on how to use the Twint payment solution, eBanking or mobile banking are intended to make it easier to get started with the digital implementation of banking transactions. Starting next year, all branches are to be converted by 2030.

The ZKB informs that the findings from the two pilot branches in Stettbach and Winterthur have been incorporated into the development of the location concept. Here, the cantonal bank evaluated which services will continue to be in demand in branches in the future and which will be shifted to the digital world. “By creating a new, contemporary offering with inviting meeting and advisory opportunities on site, we want to remain locally anchored and close to our customers and the population,” explains Zurschmitten.

IWB and Kiwigrid cooperate for decentralized energy supply

The Basel Industrial Works ( IWB ) and the German IT company Kiwigrid , which specializes in decentralized energy and e-mobility, are working together to set up energy communities. Both companies have jointly developed software for energy management and asset management, IWB and Kiwigrid inform in a joint statement . It is to be used for the first time on the Westfeld site in Basel. There, the housing cooperative is realizing a new quarter with around 500 cooperative apartments.

IWB will equip the district with an integrated heating, cooling and power supply. The Basel energy supplier obtains the necessary energy management from Kiwigrid. Using the Energy-IoT platform of the Dresden-based company, the district’s electricity meters, photovoltaic systems, charging stations and heat pumps can be integrated into a network for self-consumption, intelligently controlled and managed.

“Our goal is a completely renewable, climate-friendly energy supply,” says Markus Balmer, Head of Sales and member of the management board at IWB. The company wants to contribute to the development of sustainable living and working spaces. “As an expert in energy management systems and IoT for renewable energies, Kiwigrid has proven to be the ideal partner in the implementation of our ambitious goals,” explains Balmer.

The energy community in Westfeld should not remain the only joint project between IWB and Kiwigrid. According to the announcement, the partners have already found interested parties for further mergers. hs

Zurich launches platform MeinQuartier.Zuerich for more say

The City of Zurich is launching an online platform to increase networking and involve people in their districts. On MeinQuartier.Zuerich , residents should be able to receive information from and about their districts and get in touch with clubs and community centers as well as neighbors, according to a press release .

MeinQuartier.Zuerich is based on the open-source software Decidim , which various cities around the world are already using. In this country, Geneva, Lausanne and Lucerne use the open source software. The costs for the construction and operation of MeinQuartier.Zuerich for the city of Zurich amount to around CHF 175,000 by the end of the pilot phase at the end of 2023.

The district platform is the result of a participatory process between urban development and the districts in 2019. A digital platform for the districts emerged from this “as an important concern of this process,” according to the media release. It includes functions such as publishing information, events and blog entries as well as conducting surveys.

Four neighborhood associations, the Zurich community centers and other organizations were involved in the development process. “Contact with the population is very important to us. We hope that we can support our work with digital surveys and collections of ideas even better and, above all, more broadly in the district,” Balz Bürgisser, President of the Witikon District Association, is quoted as saying in the media release.

Clubs and organizations can register using aform on the website and take part in an information event on March 29th.
