Reddot Winner 2022 Swiss Pavilions at World Expo 2020

A sea of fog for Switzerland
The completely mirrored Swiss Pavilion attracted over 1.7 million visitors over a period of six months and was one of the top 5 most popular and "most instagrammable" buildings at this world exhibition, where around 200 countries were represented. The central showpiece in the pavilion was a real sea of fog in an artistically abstract mountain panorama. These refreshing wafts of mist in the pavilion were a sensation in the Dubai desert. The effect changed continuously for the viewer: inside and ideally brought out the magical Swiss mountain panorama.

    Poland – Inspired by Nature
The iconic architecture of the Polish Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai translates the motif of a flock of migratory birds into a fascinating kinetic sculpture that welcomes the flow of visitors from the outside and accompanies them inside as a "narrator". A poetic approach that, as an easy-to-understand metaphor, reflects the richness of Polish nature as the main habitat of migratory birds. At the same time, migratory birds stand metaphorically for relevant topics from Poland such as mobility, sustainability, migration and cosmopolitanism – which fits perfectly with the EXPO motto "Connecting Minds – Creating the Future".

    Another confirmation
“We are very proud that we received two Red Dot Awards from the international jury for our two pavilion projects. This spurs us on to continue to develop innovative, bold and outstanding designs,” says Iwan Funk. As Managing Partner of Bellprat Partner, he and his 15-strong team worked on the development of the Swiss and Polish pavilions for more than five years and oversaw the entire implementation on site in Dubai.

    Red Dot Design Award
The Red Dot Design Award is one of the largest design competitions in the world. Participants can register in three disciplines: products, brands and communication projects as well as prototypes and design concepts. A jury meets annually for each award, which assesses the submissions individually and then decides on the award of the prizes.

The Red Dot Design Award looks back on more than 60 years of history: A jury met for the first time in 1955 to evaluate the best designs of the time. That has remained the case to this day – this year with around 20,000 submissions. The award ceremony will take place on October 28, 2022 in Berlin.

Madaster wins Integral Baumanagement as a partner

Madaster wants to strengthen the circular economy in the construction and real estate sector. To this end, it offers digital tools on its platform, such as material passports and indices for recording the economic and circular value of buildings. In addition, companies that are committed to the circular economy in the construction and real estate sector are networked. With Integral Baumanagement AG , the Swiss register for materials has now gained another comrade-in-arms, Madaster Switzerland informs in a statement . The company based in Olten provides overall services in the planning and realization of buildings for builders and real estate owners.

With the decision to make Integral Baumanagement AG fit for Madaster, “we are investing in a better future and thus making a significant contribution to achieving climate neutrality in construction,” Mauro Giorgini is quoted in the statement. The managing director of Integral Baumanagement AG relies on Madaster to catalog the materials used in the building and to determine their value, suitability for reuse and their impact on the environment. “In this way, we can lay the foundation for a sustainable future and optimal market positioning of your property with our customers.”

Madaster’s building records record data about the materials used in a building. “We live in a closed system and resources are finite,” explains Marloes Fischer in the statement. For the managing director of Madaster Services Schweiz AG, individual buildings as well as entire areas and cities should be used as “gold mines for material”. “If we write down what’s there now, we’ll make building the future easier.”

  • Schindler and ISS become partners in vertical mobility

Schindler and ISS become partners in vertical mobility

According to a press release, Schindler and the building service provider ISS , headquartered in Zurich, have signed a global framework agreement to optimize ISS’ vertical mobility solutions. The cooperation makes the Ebikon-based provider of elevators and escalators the “preferred partner for the maintenance and modernization of elevators and escalators” in ISS buildings worldwide.

In particular, Schindler’s “real-time performance and maintenance monitoring” is to be used in ISS services. ISS specializes in the design of workspaces and building management and has buildings in more than 30 countries.

According to the media release, the focus of the partnership is on “tailor-made solutions to optimize the flow of people in buildings managed by ISS worldwide and thus make the stay in these buildings more pleasant”.

The cooperation should also help to support ISS in its sustainability efforts, according to Paolo Compagna, operational manager at Schindler. The Schindler Port 4D product will be used to achieve the intended net-zero emissions. It can reduce the energy consumption of an elevator group by up to 40 percent. Further support for achieving the sustainability goals should bring “modernization and the introduction of adaptive maintenance solutions”.

  • Wincasa is a new partner of Madaster

Wincasa is a new partner of Madaster

Real estate service provider Wincasa has entered into a partnership with Madaster . According to a press release , Wincasa intends to facilitate the efficient use of materials throughout the life cycle of a property. Wincasa uses the Madaster material pass for this. It gives insight into the materials, components, products and quantities that were used to create a building. It also includes information about the quality of the materials, their locations, and their financial and circular value.

“The exact knowledge of the built-in materials is an integral part of the holistic view of a property”, Beatrice Landolt, Head Construction & Facility Management at Wincasa AG, is quoted as saying. “On the basis of this data, we will in future be able to evaluate the circularity of the properties we manage and map this in a corresponding index.”

As stated in the announcement, a detailed material pass for an existing building is being created for the first time in Switzerland in the Müllerstrasse 12 renovation project in Zurich. Wincasa is supporting this Swiss Prime Site Immobilien AG project with its client trust department. In this way, if one property is demolished, materials can be used specifically in another property, says Landolt. “This possibility means a new dimension of circularity in the real estate industry and closes the cycle in Cradle to Cradle construction projects.”
