    Regionalwerke AG Baden(RWB) has acquired the shares of AEW Energie AG in Aarau in Fernwärme Siggenthal AG(FWS), according to an ad hoc announcement. In doing so, RWB intends to expand its commitment to sustainable energy supply in the region. AEW Energie specialises in solar power in the canton of Aargau. The sale price was not disclosed.

    RWB has reportedly been working successfully with FWS for many years. The acquisition of the 27.3 per cent stake in FWS is intended to deepen the partnership. FWS, which is based in Nussbaumen, is stable and financially independent and has developed very positively over the last few years since it was founded. It therefore describes RWB as an ideal partner.

    “The investment in Fernwärme Siggenthal AG fits in perfectly with RWB’s activities in the area of district heating,” Managing Director Michael Sarbach is quoted as saying. “Both companies attach great importance to the further expansion of district heating in the region.” Adrian Hitz, Chairman of the FWS Board of Directors, refers to the good cooperation with RWB to date: “Now that AEW has decided to sell its shares, we are relieved that we already know the future shareholder well, as we have already developed and realised a very good project together with the SIBANO connecting pipeline.” SIBANO is a 3.3 kilometre long district heating transport pipeline from the Turgi waste incineration plant to the Baden Nord heating centre.

    Neustark intends to use the acquired funds to strengthen its position in Europe and gain new markets in America and Asia.

    Neustark, a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich(ETH), has developed a process in which CO2 is converted into limestone, which is bound to the pores and surface of the concrete granulate. The carbonated granulate can then be used in road construction or for the production of recycled concrete. According to the company, Neustark currently operates 19 plants with this technology in Germany, Liechtenstein, Austria and Switzerland. The company aims to store 1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide from the air by 2030.

    Energie 360° and Vantage Data Centres have entered into a partnership to set up an energy network. The data centre operator based in the US state of Colorado is planning to build a new data centre campus in Volketswil. According to a press release, the planned utilisation of waste heat at the new site will create the “ideal energy source for an energy network”. “We are delighted about this partnership and the fact that we can make a contribution to the decarbonisation of the energy system,” Wolfgang Zepf, Country Manager of Vantage Switzerland, is quoted as saying.

    Construction of the energy centre is scheduled to begin in summer 2025. From the end of 2028, 70 megawatts of neutral thermal energy are to be generated for 7,000 households in the municipalities of Volketswil, Greifensee, Schwerzenbach and Effretikon.

    Consumers will probably not have to wait that long.     According to the press release, there are hundreds of thousands of buildings in Switzerland that are in need of renovation. Between 30 and 40 per cent of greenhouse gases come from buildings. The renovation rate of the Swiss building stock must therefore be drastically increased in order to fulfil the Energy Strategy 2050 and the Climate Act recently adopted by the Swiss people.

    The plans to join forces in the Limmat Valley by merging the private-sector Limmatstadt AG and the publicly financed Regionale 2025 association have failed. The two organisations, which had previously worked in parallel on the development of the Limmat Valley as a whole, were unable to agree on a joint structure and financing for a future public-private partnership. This development now raises questions about the continuation of location promotion activities in the region.

    The two organisations have existed side by side for a decade with similar objectives but different approaches and funding models. While the Limmat Valley Regional Project Show Association concentrates on the realisation of an exhibition of regional projects, Limmatstadt AG focuses on regional location promotion.

    Last year, Limmatstadt AG initiated a strategy project to develop a sustainable structure for regional development with stakeholders from various sectors. The strategy paper “Together for the Limmat Valley” aimed to merge the two organisations from 2026 in order to tackle regional challenges more efficiently.

    However, these plans were rejected by the board members of the Limmattal Regional Project Show association, which puts the continuation of the project in question. In response to this development, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Limmatstadt AG, Balz Halter, has announced his resignation and will withdraw from the organisation.

    Limmatstadt AG has worked intensively over the last ten years to establish the Limmat Valley as a region and to represent its interests. In view of the current situation, it is now being discussed whether and how location promotion in the Limmat Valley should be continued.

    The early public general meeting on 12 March 2024 is intended to provide the framework for a comprehensive discussion on the future of Limmatstadt AG and location promotion in the Limmat Valley.

    The project includes a new railway station building, several bus stops, a taxi rank and space for bicycles. In the area of the current Parsenn car park, primary residences of a cooperative and warm guest beds are planned. The old railway station is to make way for residential and commercial buildings.

    Sustainability and quality of life
    The project places great emphasis on sustainability and aims to improve the quality of life of the local population by providing affordable living space. A park will be created in the area of Seehofseeli and St. Theodul Church.

    Timetable and public participation
    Further planning phases will follow based on the master plan. The people of Davos will vote on the project at the end of 2024. If the result is positive, the project planning work will continue and the sub-projects will be implemented.

According to a media release, the AMAG Group will give preference to Meyer Burger solar modules for all its own photovoltaic plants yet to be built. As part of its climate strategy, the AMAG Group will build around 75,000 square metres of solar plants at its own locations by 2025.

    Helion Energy and Meyer Burger Technology are committed to rebuilding the photovoltaic value chain in Switzerland as part of the strategic partnership, the statement added. Currently, Switzerland imports more than 90 percent of its solar modules from Asian countries.

The modules show lower performance losses over the years and higher yields in all seasons due to better temperature coefficients and low-light behaviour. They are designed to last more than 30 years and come with an industry-leading warranty of at least 25 years, he said.

    According to CEO Gunter Erfurt, Meyer Burger is in the process of “massively expanding” its production for solar cells and modules. The Swiss solar modules have a technological advantage over the Asian competition and generate significantly higher yields over the entire lifetime.

    Madaster is working on so-called material passports for new and existing buildings. With these material passports, construction waste is given an identity and can be cataloged and reused as resources. The aim is to avoid waste and promote the circular economy in the construction and real estate sector.

    The Madaster platform can also be used during the design phase of buildings to compare different construction methods and material options.     Josef Spillner from the Zurich University of Applied Sciences ( ZHAW ) gave a keynote speech on the opportunities and risks of cyber-physical spaces. The cooperation between the ZHAW and the private university of the Emirate of Sharjah ( Sharjah University ) was also presented at the event.

Damit will Holcim den ökologischen Fussabdruck seines Betriebes weltweit verringern und sein Angebot an nachhaltigem Zement erweitern.

    Eni verfügt über Wissen, wie sich CO2 abscheiden und mineralisieren lässt, um es in Olivin zu speichern. Im Innovationszentrum von Holcim wollen Forschende „die Verwendung dieses karbonisierten Olivins als neuen emissionsarmen Rohstoff für die Formulierung eines grünen Zements untersuchen“, heisst es in der Medienmitteilung. Das Forschungsteam von Holcim will sich dabei auf die Charakterisierung der mechanischen Eigenschaften von karbonisiertem Olivin in der Betonproduktion konzentrieren.

    Olivin ist ein auf der Erde weit verbreitetes Mineral. Dies in Kombination mit den weltweiten Aktivitäten von Holcim und Eni würde diese Lösung „in hohem Masse skalierbar machen“ und so Materialien für umweltfreundliches Bauen weltweit ermöglichen.

    Die Partnerschaft mit Eni ist eines von weltweit 30 Projekten von Holcim, die sich mit Lösungen zur Abscheidung, Nutzung und Speicherung von Kohlenstoffdioxid beschäftigen.
