Modern shading solution replaces old awning in Solothurn

Bieri Tenta AG from Grosswangen has replaced the old awning at the outdoor pool on the River Aare in Solothurn with a new mechanically tensioned membrane roof. According to a press release, the original awning could no longer be repaired due to its age. The awning installed by Bieri was constructed using modern technology and is intended to provide a permanent and safe shade solution for the playground.

According to Bieri, it was no longer possible to simply re-tension the structure due to the original technical design. The existing awning was a textile supporting structure without static documentation. As part of a preliminary project, Bieri developed a new solution, taking into account current standards and recalculating the statics. The new mechanically tensioned membrane roof is a reconstruction of the original shape with modern detailed solutions and fulfils all safety requirements. The temporary winter support is also still part of the concept and has been adapted to the new structure.

The membrane roof is characterised by its textile construction and now provides sufficient shade for the outdoor pool playground. The outdoor pool is a popular meeting place, especially on hot summer days, and is still being modernised today.

  • Solar shading for historical architecture in Spain

Solar shading for historical architecture in Spain

Aadorf-based sun shading manufacturer Griesser is involved in the reconstruction and remodelling of the listed former San Agustín monastery in Badajoz, south-west Spain. This is being remodelled into a school of arts and crafts. According to a press release, the straight-lined building offers good conditions for an educational institution. In the past, the former monastery has been used as barracks, a courthouse and a school.

The cloisters are also to be incorporated into the school during the current remodelling. Their arcades will be extensively glazed and require solar shading. Griesser is supplying its Solomatic 80 system for this purpose: the customised louvre blinds provide good shading on the one hand and a good supply of natural light on the other. Both the classic design of the slats and their colour scheme in RAL 7022, an almost anthracite grey shade, fit in with the historic appearance of the building.

In addition, the incidence of daylight is controlled automatically. The resulting “harmonious atmosphere” is intended to increase “the students’ ability to concentrate and their sense of well-being”.

  • Reuse of blind actuators

    Reuse of blind actuators

Griesser is giving old JAX actuators a second life. These blind actuators, which are part of Griesser’s top-selling KNX sun shading control system, will be repaired with immediate effect, according to a statement from the sun shading specialist. They will then return to the economic cycle. They are now available for customised configurations on the MyGriesser online platform.

The KNX variants with their JAX actuators are among Griesser’s national and international bestsellers. With its latest measure to “increase sustainability”, the company wanted to “start where we can achieve the greatest impact”, according to its CEO Urs Neuhauser. That’s why the choice fell on Griesser KNX control solutions.” The promise of quality also applies after the repair, which is why all repaired actuators come with a one-year guarantee. In addition, the other services also apply to the repair objects.

The project will initially be launched in France. Other Griesser locations are also planned at a later date.

As Griesser emphasises, the company has long been committed to the circular economy. For example, its aluminium has contained a high proportion of recycled material for several years. With the launch of Green Aluminium in 2024, CO2 emissions per kilogramme are to be reduced by up to 30 percent. According to the information provided, this greener aluminium will initially be used in the window shutter range.

  • New app makes measuring and installation planning easier

New app makes measuring and installation planning easier

Aadorf-based sun shading manufacturer Griesser has developed a digital platform that can be used to optimize the entire ordering process for customers. According to a press release, potential customers can use the MyGriesser OnSite app with automated processes to significantly reduce the time and effort involved in ordering.

The app guides the customer step by step through the measuring process. At the same time, a suitable sun shading system can be selected from a digital catalog. Further details about the installation location and installation are added to the app, as are corresponding image or video files. The measurements are transferred to an end device via Bluetooth and the entire data record is synchronized with the MyGriesser platform.

The app was developed and tested together with users – specialist partners on site. “We wanted to create an efficient, customer-oriented and, in particular, practical digital solution. An important success factor was to involve our specialist partners and our own sales unit, i.e. the stakeholder groups that are particularly close to our customers, right from the start,” Alexander Wimmer, Managing Director of the Griesser business unit, is quoted as saying in the press release. “With our innovative Griesser app, we are revolutionizing everyday life on construction sites and at the same time creating enormous added value for our specialist partners and our direct sales. In addition to massive time savings and fast, expert advice on site, the app creates a better overview and offers an ideal solution for responding even better to individual customer needs.”

Griesser sun protection complements four-star hotel

The Dorint Resort & Spa in Locarno/Riazzino opened in late summer this year after a three-year construction period, Griesser announced in a press release. The internationally active developer of sun protection for buildings from Aadorf contributed the façade awnings to the four-star hotel. Specifically, the Griesser products Solozip II and Soloscreen IV were installed.

“In addition to reliability and low maintenance, I opted for the Solozip façade awnings because of their elegance,” Simone Garofoli from TIGESTIM, the architectural firm responsible for the project, is quoted as saying in the press release. “This product also fits perfectly with the architectural linearity of the façade.” When choosing the Soloscreen, the vertical awning from Griesser impressed with its color scheme and discreet structure: “The option of black wire ropes makes the support structure almost invisible, bringing the fabric’s weave to the fore,” explains Garofoli.

  • Sustainable solar shading in the Olympic Village

Sustainable solar shading in the Olympic Village

The French architecture firm KOZ is one of the main architects commissioned to build the Olympic Village in Paris. For the shading in the Belvédères neighbourhood of the village, KOZ relied on the Thurgau-based company Griesser. The internationally active developer of solar shading products for buildings has equipped various buildings in Belvédères with three different solar shading solutions.

On the one hand, 265 slat blinds of the Lamisol 70 model were used, explained Griesser in a press release. A total of seven units of the Grinotex III slat blind model were installed. The sun protection was completed by 108 Tradi PUR roller shutters. Together, the sun shading solutions create a pleasant indoor climate and help to save heating and cooling energy.

“Griesser has prevailed with its quality products,” the architectural firm KOZ is quoted as saying in the press release. “In addition, the solar shading products have already proven their worth in other projects.” For the Olympic Village, KOZ decided in favour of a metallic pink shade of slat blinds and roller shutters specially developed by Griesser for the project.

Griesser protects passive house in Barcelona from the sun

According to a press release, Griesser, the sun shading manufacturer based in the St.GallenBodenseeArea, has supplied and installed the sun shading solution for an older terraced house in Barcelona that has been converted into a CO2-neutral passive house. The planning and consultancy firm Energiehaus Arquitectos in Barcelona, which specialises in the renovation of energy-efficient buildings, renovated the building to create a completely CO2-neutral property. The building is called “ShowPass“, where “Pass” stands for passive house. According to Griesser, it is the first CO2-neutral building renovated in Barcelona to receive certification from Ecómetro in Madrid and EnerPHit certification from the Passive House Institute in Darmstadt, a standard for the modernisation of old buildings with passive house components.

For the external solar shading, the Spanish architectural firm opted for Metalunic Sinus slat blinds from Griesser. According to the press release, the Swiss sun shading specialist is thus making a key contribution to the CO2 neutrality of the building.

Micheel Wassouf, CEO of Energiehaus Arquitectos, is quoted as saying that sun protection is not only a functional benefit but also a creative design tool. The design of the Griesser slat blinds makes a significant contribution to the aesthetics of the building. They harmonise perfectly with the larch wood façade. “Sun protection should be seen as a creative design tool and not as a dry fulfilment of duty,” continues Wassouf.

Griesser AG, headquartered in Aadorf, produces in its own factories in Switzerland, Austria and France and sells its products in over 20 countries.

  • Wolkenkratzer sollen Solarstrom produzieren

    Wolkenkratzer sollen Solarstrom produzieren

Das Tessiner Jungunternehmen iWin will diesem Problem entgegenwirken.
