Swisspower launches platform for local electricity communities

The municipal utility alliance Swisspower AG is launching a platform for local electricity communities (LEG). “With the Swisspower LEGhub , we are offering municipal utilities and energy suppliers an elegant solution for the administrative processing of local electricity communities, which would otherwise tie up a lot of time and resources,” said Orlando Gehrig, Head of Cooperation & Innovation at Swisspower, in a press release. Energie Thun AG, Eniwa AG, IWB, Regio Energie Solothurn and Stadtwerk Winterthur are participating in the project. LEGhub is to be integrated into the systems of energy suppliers. The resulting automation and digitalization of processes will significantly reduce the additional administrative workload for energy suppliers.

The LEGhub takes up the idea of bringing electricity producers and consumers closer together in order to cooperate in the mutual supply of electricity. “For us at Stadtwerk Winterthur, the Swisspower LEGhub is the ideal solution for efficient LEG processing and simple support for our customers,” says Pascal Berchtold, Head of Metering Services at Stadtwerk Winterthur.

    Energy Savers promote energy efficiency

The alliance of municipal utilities, Swisspower , Services industriels de Genève ( SIG ) and the Swiss Energy program of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy have launched a new platform. Energy Savers aims to increase energy efficiency “by bringing together players from the energy sector, business and associations and supporting specific projects,” explains Swisspower in a corresponding statement . Energy suppliers and local and regional authorities are named there as the primary target group.

“Only by reducing our consumption can we ensure a secure supply and achieve our climate goals,” Benoît Revaz is quoted as saying in the statement. According to the director of the Federal Office of Energy, there is still a lot of room for improvement here in Switzerland: “In housing, in mobility, but also in companies, this potential is at least 30 percent.”

The platform, which was only recently activated, is already showing a strong increase in members, is explained further in the communication. Other interested parties are invited to register directly on the platform or to arrange a meeting with the operators.

The Energy Savers work towards reducing dependence on non-renewable energy and avoiding greenhouse gas emissions. To this end, three strategic goals are defined in the communication. On the one hand, energy saving should be given a higher priority. On the other hand, the Energy Savers campaign for more investments in energy efficiency and better exploitation of energy efficiency potential. The third objective mentioned in the communication is the dissemination of success stories.

  • Heat concept from waste incineration and heat from the lake is being examined

Heat concept from waste incineration and heat from the lake is being examined

According to a press release , the energy supply companies Energie Kreuzlingen , Stadtwerke Konstanz , the KVA Thurgau association from Weinfelden TG and EKT AG from Arbon TG want to join forces in order to use new heat sources more optimally in a cross-border alliance.

A heat supply concept is being considered in which the use of CO2-neutral waste heat from the waste incineration plant of the KVA via district heating line and seawater heat from the Constance funnel are combined.

The four partners called in Swisspower AG to examine the feasibility of the project from a technical, economic, legal and organizational point of view. A result is expected in the course of the year.

Swisspower supports municipal utilities and energy suppliers with cooperation initiatives, consulting services and networking offers on the way to energy systems without CO2 emissions.

Eniwa receives the Aargauer Strom Award 2020

The Association of Aargau Electricity Suppliers has presented this year's Aargauer Strom Award. It went to Eniwa AG for their Unterentfelden project Im Erlifeld: the future area . The prize is awarded every two years to honor particularly innovative projects by Aargau electricity suppliers.

As stated in a press release from swisspower , Eniwa AG's energy concept for this quarter convinced the jury. The area with nine new multi-family houses and its 90 apartments is largely self-sufficient. The residents benefited in many ways, according to the jurors: from environmentally friendly electricity at attractive prices, charging options for electric vehicles, e-car sharing, transparent and simple billing and ultra-fast broadband internet.

Due to the corona, the award ceremony took place "in a slightly different form" in the ELFA hall in Aarau.
