    Urdorf presents real estate strategy 2030 to the population

    The Urdorf municipal council outlined the key points of the Urdorf 2030 real estate strategy at a public event in the Zentrumhalle on August 29. As part of their real estate strategy, the municipal council and administration presented ten publicly owned sites spread across the municipal area, according to a detailed press release. The structural renovations, new buildings and extensions set out in the strategy could cost up to CHF 110 million over the coming years and decades.

    The strategy is about medium to long-term planning security for the municipality, according to property director Urs Rüegg. The real estate strategy does not yet contain any concrete projects. These will be presented to the population individually at a later date.

    In the communication, the planning areas are listed individually, from schools and kindergartens to the fire department or the municipal administration. Their consolidation in a single large municipal building in the center was rejected. The municipal council and planners set two time horizons for concrete planning and implementation: from 2025 to 2029 and from 2030 to 2033.

    Municipal president Sandra Rottensteiner said that the input from the population would continue to be taken on board and would be appropriately incorporated into the finalization of the real estate strategy. The municipality conducted an online consultation from December 15, 2023 to January 15, 2024 to record the needs relating to municipal properties. A total of 444 people took part.

    The Swiss environmental arena has presented its latest future energy policy project, “ Building 2050 ”. According to the press release , the pioneering project in Urdorf shows how, thanks to the use of the latest building technology, residential developments can already become a CO2-neutral power plant in which tenants can live within their own energy budgets without electricity and heating costs.

    The Umwelt Arena is presenting all of these innovations in the new exhibition “Bauen 2050” in Spreitbach from mid-July 2022 with a construction documentary and interactive elements relating to modern construction.

    The pilot project in Urdorf is referred to as a “power house”. The building by René Schmid Architekten AG Zurich shows that surplus solar energy from the summer can be used to produce renewable, non-fossil gas for the winter using photovoltaic systems on the roof and facade. There is also a wind-solar small power station. The facade and roof insulation protects the house against cold and heat. In midsummer, excess heat can be withdrawn from the apartments and used to heat the water. The rest is stored in the ground via the geothermal probes.

    The excess electricity from the summer is used to produce hydrogen in a power-to-gas plant. It is temporarily stored in the existing gas network for the winter.

    The house in Urdorf shows the residents their daily current consumption level in order to control their personal energy budget. There are sun blinds that can be controlled depending on the weather, energy-efficient, networked household appliances of the highest efficiency class and showers with heat recovery as well as CO2-controlled comfort ventilation. Even when using the lift, the braking energy produces electricity.

    Securecell expands its headquarters in Urdorf

    The headquarters of Securecell AG in Urdorf has been expanded. The biotech company has been based in the Luberzen industrial area since April 2019. At that time, the move to an area of 1800 square meters with around 30 employees took place. According to the media release , the company, which specializes in the development of automation solutions for bioprocesses, has since doubled the number of its employees and has therefore now enlarged its workspace. At the turn of the year, the ground floor at the company headquarters became vacant. According to the press release, Securecell AG was able to move into an additional 2,000 square meters of office and production space at the end of 2021.

    When moving into the 1st floor in 2019, modern offices, a research laboratory and a clean room for medical technology development as well as a production facility for small devices with an attached warehouse and workshop were set up. The newly added work area on the ground floor is perfectly tailored to Securecell’s needs and could be used immediately without much effort, according to the press release.

    The previous tenant equipped the rooms with modern office workplaces and meeting rooms, an ESD-protected workshop suitable for electronics and production, and a large warehouse. ESD means protection against electrical discharges. In addition, the floor offers access to the loading dock and a spacious kitchen.

    Schritt für Schritt wird Urdorf-Nord zu einem dichten, lebendigen und bezahlbaren Raum für innovative, nachhaltige und lokale Lebens- und Arbeitsformen.
