District heating pipeline between Perlen and Cham to be extended

The energy supplier WWZ from Zug is further expanding the Ennetsee heating network. According to its press release, the Ennetsee region is to be supplied with waste heat from the waste incineration plant in Perlen via a district heating pipeline. This requires an extension of the district heating pipeline from Rotkreuz to Cham.

In a further construction phase, the pipeline will be laid in the municipality of Risch in the Holzhäuser Strasse area from October 7. Sewerage work will begin there on September 7. This became necessary, among other things, due to repeated flooding caused by heavy rainfall in the region.

The district heating pipeline will be pre-stressed during construction. This means that the pipe is installed and welded in a preheated state. This prevents uncontrolled expansion of the pipeline under operating load.

During the construction work, traffic obstructions such as road closures and detour are to be expected in the area. WWZ expects the district heating pipeline to Cham to be completed and put into operation by fall 2026.

WWZ geht Fernwärmenetz in Rotkreuz an

  • Construction of the energy center for Circulago begins

Construction of the energy center for Circulago begins

The construction of the Unterfeld energy center symbolically began on May 3rd with the ground-breaking ceremony. The energy center forms the core and at the same time the only above-ground part of the Circulago energy network. In the future, this will supply the districts of Altgass, Unterfeld, Schleifi, Gartenstadt and Herti in Zug and Baar with heating and cooling from Lake Zug.

The energy center is to be fully completed in autumn 2024, but the first properties will already be supplied from autumn 2023. The projected thermal energy would be enough for 1,500 standard single-family houses, project manager Benjamin Kälin is quoted as saying in a statement from the energy supplier WWZ .

The energy network also reduces the region’s dependency on the gas supply, the Mayor of Zug, Karl Kobelt, is quoted as saying in the statement. “The importance of the Circulago energy network for the city of Zug is immense.”

  • Second heating network for Steinhausen can be financed

Second heating network for Steinhausen can be financed

The construction and operation of a second heating network for the Steinhausen community are economically feasible. This is confirmed by a feasibility study that WWZ Energie and the municipality began a year ago. According to a media release by both actors, their results will be presented to the population on October 20th at 7.30 p.m. in the Steinhausen community hall.

They show that in large parts of the municipality the prerequisites in terms of energy density and demand for the construction and economic operation of a second and larger network are in place. This is to be operated with regional wood as an energy source.

The Steinhausen Zentrum heating network has been in operation since 2017. The new network could be linked to this in the medium term as well as to the Ennetsee heating network planned by WWZ. This increases the security of supply and allows efficient dimensioning of the heating center.

"The heating network, as we are planning it with WWZ, makes a significant contribution to the implementation of the Energy Strategy 2050," said Mayor Hans Staub. In addition, it increases “the attractiveness and quality of life in our community”.

  • Drilling for the Ennetsee heating network begins

Drilling for the Ennetsee heating network begins

According to a press release from WWZ , the construction of the 6.5 kilometer long heat transport pipeline from Perlen to Rotkreuz is in the starting blocks. It is part of the Ennetsee heating network. A challenge of this construction phase is the trenchless crossing under the Reuss and the A14 motorway. To this end, WWZ is starting these days between the sports field of the Root LU sports club and the Rütilöli area in Inwil LU with two pilot drillings for protective plastic pipes. The official start of construction is at the end of March, beginning of April.

The official start of construction of this heat transport pipeline from the Renergia waste incineration plant in Perlen to Rotkreuz is planned for this spring. The district heating pipes would then also be pulled into the protective pipes under the A14 motorway. After completion of the major project, the region should save around 12,000 tons of CO2 annually.
