This is largely located underground and covers a conveyor route of around 25 kilometres. It is powered by 5500 motors and is said to be more energy-efficient than the current system. It is also monitored by 5,600 sensors and complies with the new EU regulations on safety checks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">According to the press release, the system is currently the largest construction project at Zurich Airport. It will cost around 400 million Swiss francs. Zurich Airport assumes that it will be in operation for 20 to 25 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">The changeover to the new system will take place in stages from 6 November. By the end of January 2024, the baggage sorting system should be converted to such an extent that all checked baggage can be checked in accordance with the new EU regulations.
