    58 percent of Swiss buildings are heated with oil and gas

    According to a press release , most heating systems in Swiss buildings were operated with oil or gas in 2021. This is the result of the building and housing statistics now published by the Federal Statistical Office ( BFS ) based in Neuchâtel. According to this, in 2021 there were 1.77 million residential buildings and 4.69 million apartments in Switzerland. 58 percent of the buildings were heated with fossil fuels – heating oil and gas are mentioned. Every fourth person heated with gas. 17 percent of the apartments were equipped with a heat pump. Their share of Swiss heating has quadrupled since 2000.

    Almost 40 percent of the population used heating oil in 2021. 25 percent heated with gas and 16 percent with a heat pump. The proportion of people who use heating oil was highest in the cantons of Ticino with 54 percent and Glarus (50 percent). Gas was used most frequently in the cantons of Geneva and Vaud, at 38 percent and 37 percent respectively.

    There are big differences in the share of gas between urban and rural areas. In urban communities, 30 percent of buildings were heated with gas, compared to just 4 percent in rural communities.

    More than 1 million of all buildings are single-family homes, of which more than half of the inhabited single-family homes were only occupied by one or two people, according to the BFS statement. An inhabited apartment in Switzerland was 102.4 square meters on average. Three and four room apartments make up 55 percent of all apartments in Switzerland.

    With the construction, the pharmaceutical company is once again committed to its headquarters in Basel. "Building 2 is another visible commitment by Roche to the Basel site, where Roche was founded over 125 years ago," CEO Severin Schwan is quoted as saying in the statement. "It is another milestone in our site development, which creates a highly attractive, modern location for our headquarters."

    Roche has invested 550 million Swiss francs in Building 2. Employees who were previously housed in various buildings across Basel are to come together at the new location. The building allows modern forms of collaboration, from teamwork to concentrated forms of work to a combination of distance and office work.

    According to the announcement, the building is "one of the world's most sustainable office towers". It is heated with waste heat from the area and cooled with groundwater. It also has an energy-efficient facade with 50 percent glass and provides a bicycle cellar with 400 parking spaces.

    Another building is expected to open on the site in autumn 2024: Roche is currently building a new research and development center for 1.2 billion Swiss francs.

Es schafft nicht nur einen Raum, sondern muss zu den Nutzern und deren Bedürfnissen passen – und zwar heute und in Zukunft. Erst dann sprechen wir von einem lebenswerten Gebäude“, erläutert Sören Eilers.

    Dabei haben sich die Anforderungen allein in den vergangenen 15 Jahren stark gewandelt: Die Denkweise der Menschen hat sich verändert, zudem herrschen regionale Unterschiede, wenn es um die Frage geht, was ein zeitgemäßes Gebäude ausmacht. Werden mancherorts nur noch Passivhäuser errichtet, so liegt der Fokus andernorts beispielsweise auf freien Lernkonzepten und offenen Räumen. Für Planer und Architekten bedeutet das, dass sie weit vorausdenken müssen. „Gebäude werden in der Gegenwart für die Zukunft gebaut, für die nächsten 30 bis 50 Jahre Nutzungszeit“, erklärt Marco Sperling. „Wir müssen in unserer heutigen Planung also bereits die Nutzungsmöglichkeiten für in ein paar Jahrzehnten bedenken. Dabei ist jedoch fast immer das Budget der limitierende Faktor.“

    Damit nicht genug. Neben den vom Auftraggeber gesteckten Rahmenbedingungen gibt es diverse gesetzliche Anforderungen, Normen und Verordnungen, die einzuhalten sind. Dabei sind sich die unterschiedlichen Regelwerke längst nicht immer einig. „Es gibt in Deutschland fast nichts, das nicht geregelt ist. Die Rahmenbedingungen der Auftraggeber sind oft verhandelbar, bei gesetzlichen Vorgaben ist das weitaus schwieriger“, weiß Sperling aus Erfahrung. Damit am Ende alle Wünsche, Bedürfnisse, Anforderungen und Vorschriften unter einen Hut gebracht werden können, ist eine intensive Abstimmung mit allen Beteiligten unerlässlich: „Der Abstimmungsbedarf wächst ständig und ist sogar in Zertifizierungsprozessen verankert. Das ist auch durchaus sinnvoll, damit es am Ende ein gutes Gebäude wird. Es gilt in jedem Fall: Je besser die Abstimmung von Beginn an, desto besser das Ergebnis!“ So werden im Idealfall alle fachbeteiligten Planer für Haustechnik, Statik, Tragwerk etc., die Verarbeiter, aber auch Nutzer und Auftraggeber sowie deren Interessensvertreter eingebunden.

    The hotel has two suites with panoramic roof terraces from which guests have a 360-degree view of the lake and the Alps. There is also a 133 square meter presidential suite and numerous guest rooms with a balcony or terrace.

    The guests are fed in one of four restaurants, for which the chef Giland Peled, who has been awarded a Michelin star, is responsible. Two of the restaurants will open a little later, in the first quarter of 2023.

    In addition to a spa area, the hotel also offers spacious rooms such as the Salon Alpine with original Belle Époque decor from 1906 and the Edelweiss ballroom with a view of the lake and garden for celebrations, conferences and other events.

    Into the net-zero energy future
    With the leading Swiss building label Minergie, more than 12 million tons of CO 2 and 67 million megawatt hours of energy have been saved since 1998 thanks to over 53,000 Minergie buildings compared to the minimum legal requirements. Minergie certifies around 3 million m 2 of energy reference area per year. In close coordination with the cantons, Minergie always leads the way and is therefore a pioneer in cantonal energy laws. This interaction has worked since the beginning and continues successfully. Minergie is currently looking very closely at the energy used and the greenhouse gas emissions in the construction of a building. And secondly, Minergie is striving to improve the operating phase: Extensive, digitized building data is used to measure the energy flows during operation in order to then carry out operational optimization where necessary on the basis of the monitoring. For years, fossil-free operation – even with modernization – Minergie is moving more and more towards net zero. The Minergie-A-ECO standard comes closest to the Swiss net-zero building.

Das Gebäude wird grösstenteils in Skelettbauweise mit Holzstützen, Holzunterzügen und Holzhybridecken errichtet. Bei der horizontalen Aussteifung des Gebäudes setzt man auf Erschliessungskerne in Massivbauweise.

    Photovoltaik-Anlagen an der Fassade und auf dem Dach, Energieerzeugung über Erdwärmesonden, ein innovatives Lüftungskonzept mit Wärmerückgewinnung sowie die Nutzung von Regenwasser tragen zur Nachhaltigkeit und Energieeffizienz bei. Die Verwendung von Holz und Holzwerkstoffen schafft zudem eine schöne Raumqualität und ein angenehmes Raumklima.

    114 apartments and 35 MOVEment apartments are planned. 3,100 square meters are planned for the services area, and 4,600 square meters for sales and gastronomy. Garages for 176 cars, 34 motorcycles and 450 bicycles will be created.

    A central city lane for pedestrians and passers-by and a city square are to be created in Wetzikon. A "Spanish Step" is intended to serve as a cross connection between Bahnhofstrasse and Jörg-Schneider-Park as well as the Wetzikon vocational school.

    Planning for the new parish hall began in 2016. A first draft with a planned cost of more than 18 million Swiss francs was rejected. The new cost plan provides for expenditure of CHF 13 million and was approved in early 2020.

    According to an article in the "Aargauer Zeitung", architects, entrepreneurs and members of the building commission were present at the start of construction, as well as mayor Markus Mötteli (centre) and councilor Roger Mohr (SVP).     Imbach Logistik errichtet im Littauerboden sein neues Logistikcenter Luzern. Im August 2020 war der Spatenstich für den Neubau  mit einer Gesamtfläche von rund 30’000 Quadratmeter erfolgt. Nun ist die Gebäudehülle fast fertiggestellt, informiert das zur Galliker Transport AG gehörende Unternehmen mit Sitz in Schachen.

    Das Ende der Bauarbeiten ist für Herbst 2024 vorgesehen. Einmal fertiggestellt sollen im neuen Logistikzentrum rund 60 Mitarbeiter beschäftigt sein. Das Lager werde ein vollautomatisiertes Hochregallager mit Stellplätzen für 6500 Paletten und ein ebenfalls vollautomatisiertes Kleinteilelager beinhalten, erläutert Imbach Logistik. Im Zuge der Arbeiten werden zudem von Imbach am Standort bereits betriebene alte Hallen abgerissen.

    Die Energie für das neue Logistizentrum will Imbach Logistik aus erneuerbaren Quellen gewinnen. Heizung und Kühlung des gesamten Gebäudes sollen mit Grundwasser erfolgen, eine auf dem Dach geplante Photovoltaikanlage ist auf eine jährliche Produktion von 950’000 Kilowattstunden Strom ausgelegt. Insgesamt investiert Imbach Logistik rund 60 Millionen Franken in das Projekt.

    Aktuell werden Haus- und Gebäudetechnik installiert und die Fördertechnik für Paletten und Behälter eingerichtet. Im Kleinteilelager sind bereits erste Arbeiten für die Inbetriebnahme angelaufen.

In between, a heat exchanger on the surface takes the heat from the water and uses it to supply the building.

    While the gas supply currently emits 1,300 tonnes of CO2 annually, this should only be 70 tonnes in the future.

The basis was the mass and energy flows for the year 2018. According to the press release , this means that domestic material consumption is 87 million tonnes net per year. That is the mass of material needed to keep the Swiss economy running. This includes, for example, buildings, streets, cars and electricity.

    As an example of outflowing masses, the announcement mentions that 12 million tons end up in the final disposal. The export in the research year 2018 amounted to 18 million tons. A large part of the incoming material remains in the system and allows the "warehouse" to grow by 52 million tons per year (as of 2018). The total weight of the “material warehouse” in Switzerland is around 3.2 billion tons.

    The study is the fourth part of the MatCH project. The abbreviation stands for "Material and energy resources and associated environmental impacts in Switzerland". The project was launched in 2013 on behalf of the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) and extended over several stages. The first part recorded all material and energy flows in the construction sector; the second covered mobility. And part three was devoted to the production and consumption of the other goods that are imported, obtained domestically and exported.

    The work now presented is part four, which brings a synthesis of the findings from the three previous ones. The team also analyzed how the behavior of the population affects greenhouse gas emissions. In addition to per capita consumption data, the researchers also analyzed personal behavior. The message states that if all residents behaved like the fifth of the population with the most exemplary lifestyle, Switzerland's total greenhouse gas emissions could be reduced by 16 percent. If, on the other hand, everyone behaved like the fifth with the least ecological lifestyle, emissions would rise by 17 percent.
