    The acquired plot on Neueggweg is practically undeveloped and, according to the zoning plan, is in residential zone C. The location is quiet, yet well developed, an advantage for future residents. According to the current planning status, Mobimo will realise a condominium development with around 70 residential units on the site. The project volume amounts to around CHF 120 million. The start of construction is dependent on a mandatory design plan obligation. Completion of the development is scheduled for the end of 2032.

    Development pipeline and market environment
    With the purchase of the site, the company is substantially expanding its development pipeline for the coming years. Demand for residential property in good locations around Lucerne remains consistently high. The municipality of Meggen is one of the most sought-after residential locations in Central Switzerland and, in addition to its proximity to the city of Lucerne, scores highly for its attractive location and quality of life. Lake Lucerne, the local recreational area around Meggen and the municipal infrastructure further strengthen the location.

    Project objectives and outlook
    The new development not only offers new living space, but also provides urban development opportunities thanks to the design plan. The process gives architectural firms the opportunity to contribute innovative housing solutions and modern, needs-orientated spatial concepts. The planning takes into account both the desire for attractive green spaces and the requirements for residential density and sustainability.

    Several planning steps are still required before the planned completion at the end of 2032. The exact start of construction depends on the development and finalisation of the design plan. The occupancy date will be communicated promptly based on the official procedures and marketing.

    Nüssli Schweiz AG from Hüttwilen has broken ground on the expansion of the Mack Pyramid in Monheim am Rhein, according to a press release. The Thurgau-based event construction company was awarded the general contract in spring 2025. Following the construction of an eight-court sports hall, this is the second contract from Monheim for Nüssli.

    The construction is an architectural and artistic challenge. A second mirrored pyramid will be placed on top of the existing Mack pyramid. Additional exhibition and storage rooms are to be created in the new double structure. The existing space will also be renovated and modernised.

    The deep foundations are due to be completed by the end of October 2025 and the shell of the stairwells by the end of the year. The supporting structure consists of a steel construction with stairwells made of reinforced concrete. Where possible, prefabricated components from the Nüssli armoury will be used.

    The topping-out ceremony is scheduled to take place in March 2026, just in time for the 95th birthday of German artist Heinz Mack. Full completion of the building is planned for summer 2027.

    “We are proud to be realising the vision of the city of Monheim am Rhein together with our partners,” said Udo Baader, Head of Project Management Special Projects at Nüssli, in the press release. “The extension of the Mack Pyramid is not only an architectural highlight, but also a cultural impulse for the entire region.”

    In the middle of the Zurich conurbation, the new H1 residential tower towers above the Zwhatt site. With a height of 75 meters and 24 storeys, the building is a visible marker for the Regensdorf skyline and for hybrid construction methods between concrete and wood. Despite its striking red hue and eye-catching façade, the interior is dominated by natural and neutral materials. The architecture remains restrained, the structure classic. Three solid base storeys and a central concrete core support the building, while timber columns, timber-concrete composite ribbed ceilings, lightweight façades and solar panels ensure resource efficiency.

    The HBV structure allows for a high degree of prefabrication and a significant reduction in gray energy. Compared to conventional solid buildings, 20% of emissions are saved, a total of around 670 tons of CO₂ over a life cycle of 60 years. The horizontally positioned photovoltaic modules serve as a brisesoleil and generate around 155,000 kWh of electricity per year, which covers around 36% of the apartments’ energy requirements.

    Quality of living, community and urban density
    At the base of the H1, three-sided arcades connect the building to the neighborhood and ensure an urban quality of living. Inside, a clear, modular structure ensures compact, flexible apartments. 156 units are organized around the central core and are reached via short, bundled access routes. There is space for community halfway up the building with a two-storey meeting room, a launderette and spectacular views. The wooden elements create a pleasant indoor climate, while exposed beams and clay surfaces ensure a cozy atmosphere.

    Sustainability and the ambivalence of the high-rise principle
    H1 is a project of transition. The high proportion of wood reduces the CO₂ profile, but does not make the use of concrete superfluous. The climate-friendly construction method, local raw materials such as beech wood from the Jura or clay and the focus on renewable energy make sustainable construction a reality. Nevertheless, the high-rise building remains an ambivalent concept. The densification saves space, but the statics and fire protection still force hybrid constructions.

    In terms of urban planning, the Zwhatt site represents a new development perspective for Regensdorf. The silhouette of H1 and other towers characterizes the skyline. The quarter combines living, working and open spaces and stands for an urban development that remains flexible and adaptable.

    The H1 residential tower exemplifies change in the construction industry. It combines advanced timber hybrid technology, a high degree of prefabrication and urban integration. H1 is thus a “building of transition”, a step towards net zero, but also a reflection of the challenges and potentials facing sustainable residential construction in urban centers today.

    New orders in Germany strengthen building construction business

    Implenia has landed contracts for building construction in Germany with a volume of more than 200 million euros. According to a press release, the projects are “in line with the Group’s strategic focus on large and challenging property projects that require extensive expertise and many years of experience”.

    On behalf of project developer and asset manager Rock Capital Group, the construction group will act as general contractor in Munich-Neuhausen, transforming the approximately one-hectare Bruckmann Quartier on Nymphenburgerstrasse into a high-quality office quarter. A combination of new construction and modernisation will create 28,000 square metres of office floor space in a prime central location. Individual parts of the building will be newly constructed, historic components will be modernised, one building will be extended and another will have a listed façade. Construction is due to start in 2025.

    In Brandenburg, Implenia is constructing a new administration building as the technical leader in a joint venture with GP Papenburg, a comprehensive school in the Ruhr region and a six-court sports hall with functional buildings for two grammar schools in Frankfurt am Main. All three new buildings will be handed over on a turnkey basis.

    Implenia is once again active at the Mainz customs harbour. The Group is now realising the Rheinwiesen living project for the project company of BWL Wohnungsbaugesellschaft and Volksbank Darmstadt. It consists of five five-storey residential buildings with an unobstructed view of the Rhine. Implenia has also been commissioned to construct a senior citizens’ residential complex in Magdeburg and an exhibition and sales building for the Stark Group in Nuremberg.

    The current tower was put into operation together with Dock A in 1985 and has reached the end of its service life after almost 40 years. The new tower is being built to the north of the existing site and will provide air traffic controllers with an optimized overview of ground and air traffic. Functionality, sustainability and workplace quality will be raised to a new level.

    Part of a major project
    The construction of the new tower is closely linked to the replacement construction of Dock A. Both projects were submitted by Flughafen Zürich AG 2023 and examined in a joint procedure. While the tower has now been approved in a partial decision, the process for the new Dock A is still ongoing. Until its completion, the tower will initially be operated as an independent building.

    Focus on sustainability
    The project is being led by architects Bjarke Ingels Group and is based on a construction method using wood as the main material. The roof of the new dock will be fully equipped with photovoltaics and is expected to cover up to two thirds of the electricity requirements. With an investment volume of around 700 million Swiss francs, the new Dock A replacement building is one of the most important infrastructure projects of the coming years.

    Objections and outlook
    Several objections to the project have been received, including from affected municipalities. According to DETEC, however, the construction itself will not lead to additional aircraft noise. On the contrary, emissions in the surrounding area could even decrease. Construction of the tower is scheduled to start in 2027 and the new Dock A is not expected to open before 2030. A third of all passengers at Zurich Airport use Dock A, so its renewal is seen as central to airport operations in the future.

    With the new tower and Dock A, Zurich Airport is focusing on a sustainable and functional infrastructure that meets the increasing demands of air traffic and environmental protection. The project combines high-tech air traffic control with modern building culture, a strong signal for the future of Swiss air traffic.

    “Urban living meets nature” is how Halter AG introduces a post on LinkedIn about one of the company’s new-build projects. Specifically, the Schlieren-based property developer is constructing a building with 43 condominiums and around 80 square metres of commercial space at Leimbachstrasse 28 to 32. According to the project’s website, the 2.5- to 4.5-room flats will be the ideal home for “nature-loving city dwellers”. Interested parties can sign up to a list there, which will be used to send out information about the project before the official marketing launch.

    The total of 43 condominiums, including penthouses and garden flats, are divided into 10 flats with 2.5 rooms each, 30 flats with 3.5 rooms and three flats with 4.5 rooms. The description of the project cites excellent transport links, diverse infrastructure and nearby recreational areas as plus points. Construction work is scheduled to begin in spring 2026 and be completed two years later.

    Construction work on the entrance to the InnHub La Punt began in March. A new chapter in the project for an innovation campus in La Punt was opened on 9 July, InnHub La Punt announced in a post on LinkedIn: “The start of construction of the InnHub marks the transition from vision to reality”.

    The InnHub La Punt is designed as a mixture of sports, health and educational facilities as well as a number of second homes. The innovation campus is intended to serve as a place of creation and exchange for locals, guests and companies. The internationally renowned British architect Norman Foster, who lives in the Engadin, is responsible for the design of the new coworking space, which covers a total area of 7,700 square metres. By using local wood, granite and lime mortar, he wants to set an example for sustainability and the circular economy.

    Construction work on the InnHub is due to be completed by the end of 2028. From then on, the innovation campus will offer companies a place of retreat and inspiration in the Engadin. If you don’t want to wait that long, you can already utilise the services of the InnHub PopUp in La Punt.

    New major orders for building construction projects in Berne and Zurich

    “Implenia has won further large and challenging building construction contracts,” the construction and property company from Opfikon announced in a press release. The order volume is estimated at over CHF 400 million in total. The two largest projects are a new building for the University of Bern and a residential development in the Zurich Oberland.

    The Canton of Bern has commissioned Implenia with the master builder work for a new medical research and training centre for the University of Bern. The university plans to unite five institutes of its medical faculty here. Construction work is due to start in May 2026 and be completed in July 2028.

    In Oetwil am See in the Zurich Oberland, Implenia will act as total contractor for the Seraina Investment Foundation to realise the new Schachenweid development. Eight flat blocks with 90 condominiums are planned here. Construction work is scheduled to start in September 2025 and the apartments should be ready for occupancy in October 2027.

    In the press release, Implenia also lists the modernisation and conversion of an inner-city building, the conversion of an old factory site in western Switzerland into an urban quarter and two new construction projects for school buildings in Switzerland and Germany as further new orders. The new projects “are in line with Implenia’s strategy of focusing on specialised real estate, which requires extensive expertise and many years of experience,” writes Implenia.

    According to an article in the “Luzerner Zeitung”, the Tudor Pro Cycling Team, currently based in Schenkon, is about to move to Sursee. The team would like to invest 18 million Swiss francs in a new six-storey headquarters there. The initiator is Sette Immo AG, which runs not only the professional team but also a junior team through its Sette Sports Group. Fabian Cancellara, a former racing cyclist, is not only team manager of the Tudor Pro Cycling Team, but is also active at Sette Immo AG.

    The team’s new headquarters is due to be completed in September 2026 and will provide space for storage, workshops, training and meeting rooms. Offices for the administration and recreation rooms for the drivers will also be built, as well as a showroom for the team. A photovoltaic system will also be installed on the roof.

    The team, which is sponsored by watch manufacturer Tudor from Geneva, is currently taking part in the Tour de France until the end of the month.

    An intensive dialogue process, which was launched in 2022, formed the basis for the current indicative project. In this collaborative process, key issues relating to urban development, the mix of uses, open spaces and ecology were discussed together with experts, neighbours and interested parties. The results have led to careful planning that strives for a balance between historical buildings and new architectural elements. The former production buildings of ag möbelfabrik horgenglarus will become available from 2027 and can be integrated into the first construction phase.

    Möbeliareal ag’s aim with the project is to create a lively, open and mixed-use area. Existing buildings such as the renovated former upholstery shop, a Hans Leuzinger building and the established RAUMSTATION coworking space already show how new uses can be integrated into existing structures. The planned new building complements the complex with exciting open spaces and gives the area a new urban legibility.

    Planned start of construction in 2027
    The development plan, based on the indicative project by agps architecture ltd. and Böe Studio GmbH, was submitted to the municipality for a preliminary review at the end of 2023. The legally binding plan is expected following any revisions. The first building applications could then follow, with construction scheduled to start in stages from 2027. This marks the continuation of a development process that has been prepared with in-depth market analyses and planning studies and is now moving into a concrete realisation phase.

    Prospects for urban living spaces
    The Möbeliareal is an exemplary project in the centre of the cantonal capital. Historically rooted, socially mixed, architecturally far-sighted and economically viable. The carefully orchestrated transition from an industrial production site to a diverse living space is an example of how site development can succeed in the area of tension between tradition and the future.

    ERNE AG Bauunternehmung is well on track with the realisation of a triple sports hall in Sissach. The project is being realised by ERNE plus as total contractor, the Laufenburg-based ERNE Group company announced in a press release. Construction work has been in full swing since the ground-breaking ceremony on 12 April last year.

    As total contractor, ERNE plus is coordinating all the trades involved in the construction work. The close collaboration will ensure that the construction project is completed on time and to a high standard, writes ERNE AG. ERNE is using digital tools for planning and realisation.

    The design of the triple sports hall, developed by architects Penzel Valier AG from Zurich, is based on sustainable construction methods, according to the press release. A large part of the hall will be built underground so that an all-weather pitch can be created on the hall roof. Above ground, the hall will be connected to the existing school building via a pavilion.

    The declared aim was to create an urban, lively and attractive neighbourhood that offers new living and working space for over 400 people. Given the shortage of housing in Chur, this is a pioneering development for families, couples and individuals.

    The unanimously selected winning project by the team led by Duplex Architekten, Gersbach Landschaftsarchitektur and IBV Hüsler Verkehrsplanung is characterised by a bold urban planning vision. Five buildings of different heights, including two striking high points, define the new neighbourhood. This “density in height” is not only an architectural statement, but also enables generous public open spaces that will significantly shape the identity of the new neighbourhood. Diversely designed streets, alleyways and sequences of squares run through the area and create a harmonious balance between public encounters and private retreats.

    A milestone for Chur
    A high-calibre jury of planning experts and representatives of the owners examined the five submitted designs in detail and unanimously decided in favour of the design by Duplex Architekten, a choice that was also endorsed by Chur’s city council. The winning project not only impressed with its clear urban planning approach, but also with its innovative transformation of the former industrial site into a lively urban centre.

    Particularly noteworthy is the striking architectural design language, which is not only aesthetically pleasing but also promises the highest quality of living. Furthermore, the diverse open and green spaces create a unique coexistence of public and private areas, giving the site a forward-looking identity. Finally, the excellent networking ensures that the neighbourhood is optimally connected to public transport and forms a seamless link to the surrounding districts.

    From vision to reality
    The winning project is currently on public display in the entrance area of Chur Town Hall and will be submitted to the newly constituted Design Advisory Board for assessment. The winning team will then further concretise the design. In the coming years, once the neighbourhood plan has been completed, the specific construction projects will be submitted and realised. Chur West will then not only be a new neighbourhood, but a vibrant, inviting gateway that redefines the city and actively shapes its future.

    Trèfle-Blanc the 400 million euro project gets underway

    The question of the actual costs of the Trèfle Blanc project caused speculation in the run-up to the project. Estimates ranged from 275 to 400 million francs. Now the Geneva government is providing clarity with the submission of a comprehensive investment bill. The initial discrepancy is not the result of a change of plan or “salami-slicing”, but of the detailed breakdown of the various funding sources and project phases.

    Initially, a credit of CHF 275.5 million will be submitted to the Grand Council for approval. This sum primarily covers the construction of two ice rinks (232 million), supplemented by costs for outdoor facilities (7.9 million), the tram connection (over 9 million), contingencies (9.3 million) and inflation (8.3 million). If this loan is approved by parliament, it could still be subject to a referendum if necessary.

    However, this sum does not represent the total costs for the canton, as CHF 17 million has already been spent on preliminary studies. This means that the total costs borne by the state to date already amount to CHF 293 million.

    Why it is 400 million
    The confusion surrounding the CHF 400 million is cleared up when the park-and-ride car park is included. This car park, whose construction will begin before the rest of the infrastructure, will provide 928 parking spaces for cars and 244 for motorbikes. It will cost an estimated CHF 99 million, a sum that is not directly requested by parliament. It will be financed by the Car Park Foundation, an autonomous public-law institution, which will borrow 75 million francs with the approval of the state, while the rest will come from its own funds. The repayment of this loan is secured in the long term by the income from the P R.

    The financing architecture
    It is essential to add this CHF 99 million to the total cost of the Trèfle Blanc project. Regardless of the source of financing used, this is public money, as the car park foundation is part of the public sector, similar to the Geneva utilities or the Geneva University Hospitals. This can also be seen in the consolidated financial statements of the Canton of Geneva. As the Presidential Department of the State Council confirms, everything is interconnected. A successful referendum against the 275 million loan would bring the entire project, including the P R, to a halt.

    The transparency in the cost breakdown of the Trèfle-Blanc project now creates the basis for an informed debate and paves the way for the realisation of this important infrastructure project, which will have a significant impact on Geneva.

    New recycling centre to become a pioneering project in the circular economy

    The city of Zurich wants to build a new recycling centre on the Juch site in Zurich-Altstetten. The estimated investment for the project is CHF 29.95 million. An additional CHF 3.15 million will be required to transfer the Juch site from the city’s financial assets to its administrative assets. Due to the high sum, there will be a referendum on the realisation of the project, the city administration announced in a press release.

    The replacement for the Hagenholz recycling centre, which will close in 2024, is designed as a pioneering project for the circular economy. The underlying design by Graber Pulver Architekten AG envisages the use of steel girders, concrete slabs and trapezoidal sheet metal from dismantled buildings, including the Hagenholz recycling centre. Wherever possible, the construction systems and materials used should be demountable and separable.

    The operating concept also emphasises sustainability. The passing on, repair and reprocessing of consignments are therefore the main focus. The reprocessing of materials comes second. Only what is not suitable for this is sent for incineration in the waste recycling plant. Delivery should be possible on foot, by bicycle, car and larger transport vehicles.

    Subject to approval by the electorate, construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026. The centre could be operational from the fourth quarter. Until then, the temporary Looächer recycling centre in Zurich-Affoltern will remain in operation.

    Geistlich Immobilia AG has announced a change at the top: As of the beginning of July, Ladina Esslinger has taken over the management of the property developer from the Geistlich Group, Geistlich Immobilia informs in a press release. The former Head of Project Development will take over the operational management from Martin Geistlich. The previous Managing Director will remain active in the company as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

    Geistlich Immobilia AG is responsible for the reorganisation of the former company site in Schlieren within the Geistlich Group. The district amRietpark is being built here on an area of over 125,000 square metres. Around 650 flats as well as commercial and office space are being created around a 600 metre long park. Geistlich Immobilia is currently working on the realisation of the Lymhof project.

    “Our aim is to realise projects that will strengthen Schlieren as a residential and business location in the long term, with real added value for the people who live here as well as for local and new companies,” Esslinger is quoted as saying in the press release. The new head of Geistlich Immobilia AG studied architecture at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and holds an Executive Master of Business Administration from the University of St.Gallen.

    Baden Cantonal Hospital has won the prize for facilities over 25,000 square metres at the European Healthcare Design Awards 2025. It was presented at the 11th European Healthcare Design Congress in London. This annual award recognises outstanding buildings in the healthcare sector.

    According to KSB, “following a highly competitive selection process”, the jury particularly praised the integrative approach of the design: “a hospital that focusses equally on functional efficiency, quality of stay, architectural identity and the well-being of patients and staff”. The jury, organised by Salus Naturarzneimittel and Architects for Health, was made up of representatives from Australia, the UK and the USA. In their announcement of the winners, the organisers emphasise that the Swiss project “raises sustainability and healing architecture to a new level”.

    The new building, also known as the Agnes Hospital, was commissioned by Baden Cantonal Hospital and planned by Nickl & Partner Architekten, Ghisleni Partner and Amstein Walthert Zurich. Its name goes back to Queen Agnes of Hungary from the House of Habsburg, who donated a hospital to the town of Baden in 1349, which has been adapted to medical developments ever since.

    “We are proud to have created an infrastructure on our healthcare campus that also inspires internationally,” says the KSB. “A reason to celebrate for the entire KSB – and for the canton of Aargau!”

    HORTUS sets a new benchmark for sustainable construction

    With HORTUS, a building has been created on the Main Campus of the Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area that is set to set new standards in sustainable construction. The project was developed by SENN, Herzog & de Meuron and ZPF Ingenieure. HORTUS is not only conceptually designed for climate compatibility, according to those involved, it will offset its gray energy within a generation and then be operated as an energy-positive building.

    The core of the concept is a consistent reduction in the use of energy in construction and operation. Materials such as clay, wood and waste paper were processed with minimal use of resources. A basement was deliberately omitted. At the same time, a photovoltaic area of around 5,000 m² on the façade and roof ensures maximum energy generation.

    Circular economy at component level
    Particular attention is paid to reusability. Every element used was planned with a second use in mind. HORTUS thus follows the principles of the circular economy down to the last detail. Prefabricated clay-wood elements, manufactured directly on site in a field factory, enable efficient dismantling or reuse.

    Natural materials ensure a balanced indoor climate, supported by a green inner courtyard designed by renowned landscape architect Piet Oudolf.

    Infrastructure for innovation
    The building offers around 10,000 m² of usable space, primarily for companies from the ICT and life sciences sectors. The office space was already fully let when it opened. The only space still available is in the coworking area. This is aimed at start-ups, project teams or individual users who want to benefit from the proximity to one of the largest life sciences ecosystems in Europe.

    The coworking space and the office areas have shared kitchens, a garden and IT infrastructure. On the first floor, catering facilities and a fitness area complement the infrastructure. The aim is to combine innovation and everyday life in one place.

    Part of a larger development site
    It is not the first building on the campus. The Main Campus HQ is already in operation. Other buildings, ALL, HOPE and SCALE, are under construction or in the planning stage. By 2029, Allschwil will be home to Switzerland’s largest innovation park, with a focus on life sciences, digital health and industrial transformation.

    With currently around 1,200 employees in 92 companies and 12 research groups, the site is already an important center for applied research and development in Switzerland.

    Parliament approves new IOM headquarters in Geneva

    On 14 June 2025, the National Council approved an interest-free federal loan for the renovation of the headquarters of the International Organization for Migration by 166 votes to 2. The decision followed a yes vote by the Council of States in March. The IOM, as part of the UN system, plays a leading role in global migration policy. The current site in Geneva’s Morillons district dates back to the early 1980s and does not meet energy, functional or security standards.

    Investment of strategic importance
    Parliament’s approval came despite the fact that the IOM recently announced that it would be cutting around 20 percent of the approximately 1,000 jobs in Geneva. The background to this is a freeze on aid from the USA, one of the organization’s main donors. However, Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis emphasized in the Council that the construction project was sensibly dimensioned, even with a reduced workforce of around 600 employees in future. With this commitment, Switzerland is pursuing a clear host state policy strategy to strengthen International Geneva in the long term.

    Financing structure and timetable
    The loan of CHF 44.7 million granted by the federal government is interest-free and is to be repaid within 50 years. The funds will flow to the FIPOI (Real Estate Foundation for International Organizations), which is responsible for the project. The Canton of Geneva is contributing an additional CHF 21.6 million. This means that the federal government and the canton are covering around two thirds of the total costs. Parliament had already supported a preliminary project in 2022 with CHF 5.7 million for planning work. Construction is scheduled to start in January 2026 and the building is expected to be occupied in 2029.

Commissioning is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. With 250 employees in future, the facility will bring together research and development, engineering, production and sales in one building complex.

    Oerlikon plans to develop modern thermal spray technologies and laser-based technologies as well as provide various services at the Reichhold Campus. “The new Campus Reichhold will play a central role in the further development of our aerospace and general industry businesses by bringing together the entire value chain in a collaborative environment,” said Prof Dr Michael Süss, Executive Chairman of Oerlikon, in the press release.

    The technology developed at the Reichhold campus is intended to improve heat resistance, durability and corrosion protection in industrial high-performance components. In future, it will be used primarily by customers in the aerospace, automotive and general industry sectors. A test rig for aerospace turbine components will also enable the validation of thermal spray coatings under real-life conditions.

    In addition, Oerlikon plans to implement comprehensive measures to reduce the environmental impact in the areas of energy consumption, mobility and resource management at the new site.

According to the study, replacement new builds create an average of four new flats for every demolished flat. “Despite criticism, there is often no alternative to replacement construction in order to combat the housing shortage without further urban sprawl, as gentler forms of densification, such as conversions and extensions, are not sufficient to maximise the use of scarce building land,” Raiffeisen Switzerland’s Chief Economist Fredy Hasenmaile is quoted as saying in a press release issued by the banking group on the study. He recommends paying “greater attention to social and ecological compatibility” in order to maintain social acceptance of new replacement construction.

    According to the authors of the study, the situation on the rental housing market remains characterised by excess demand. Falling interest rates could boost construction activity, according to the press release. “However, it is questionable whether the high construction levels of the past can be achieved again even under negative interest rates, as regulatory hurdles and the very limited availability of building land continue to dampen the potential,” says Hasenmaile.

    The study identifies an increase in demand on the owner-occupied property market as a result of falling interest rates. The banking group’s experts have also observed a rising demand for office space. This is due to employment growth and an increased office presence. “After several years of rather mixed prospects, the outlook for office properties has recently brightened noticeably,” says Hasenmaile.

    Culverts serve as diversions and are usually used to cross under roads, canals or rivers, according to the press release. They are necessary for the new police centre due to the high groundwater level. They keep the water in check so that it does not press against the building from below. The rainwater that crosses the site is also diverted with the help of the culvert and drained away together with the groundwater.

    In contrast to conventional pipes, culverts are always filled with water, making them pressurised pipes. Debrunner Acifer supplied high-pressure PE pipes for these pipes. “High-pressure PE pipes are not required for normal wastewater pipes. Thanks to the gradient, the water always flows away and does not remain permanently in the pipe. However, culverts are always filled with water – and the pipes have to be able to withstand this,” says Gerhard Peter, head plumbing fitter at Ramseyer und Dilger AG in Bern, which laid the Debrunner Acifer pipes.

    All four culverts were completed in December 2024. However, it will still be a while before the cantonal police can take possession of their new police centre. the project is expected to be completed and the building ready for occupation in 2028.

    The Graubünden cultural foundation Nova Fundaziun Origen has realised the world’s tallest 3D-printed building together with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich(ETH). The new landmark of the mountain village of Mulegns at the foot of the Julier Pass is called Tor Alva, the white tower. According to an ETH report, it was inaugurated in the presence of Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin and ETH President Joël Mesot. Parmelin expressed his conviction that the building “will become a place of cultural and touristic encounter” and can stop the place from dying out.

    Tor Alva was printed in five months on the ETH Hönggerberg campus. The parts were then assembled in Savognin GR and transported to Mulegns by heavy goods vehicle along the Julierstrasse. This pioneering building, which is reminiscent of the tradition of Graubünden confectioners, demonstrates how digital construction enables load-bearing structures without formwork. Over four storeys, 32 sculptural columns of white concrete grow upwards, becoming increasingly slender and finally joining together at the very top to form a kind of open dome.

    An industrial robot applied the concrete layer by layer. A new mix was developed at ETH for this purpose, as well as the innovation of a reinforcement that grows with the building together with the ETH spin-off Mesh and Zindel United.     Formaler Rekurs als Zwischenschritt
    Obwohl es von externen Seiten keine Einsprachen gab, hat die Eigentümerin selbst einen Rekurs gegen die Baubewilligung eingelegt. Hintergrund ist die Notwendigkeit, die Detailvorgaben der Stadt zu präzisieren und in einem konstruktiven Dialog mit dem Amt für Städtebau und dem Amt für Baubewilligungen abzustimmen. CEO Thomas Aebischer erklärt: „Das ist eine Formalie. Entscheidend ist für uns der inhaltliche Austausch, damit Rocket & Tigerli der städtebaulichen Bedeutung vollauf gerecht werden.“

    Zentrale Punkte der Nachbesserung sind eine attraktive, öffentlich zugängliche Dachterrasse und publikumsorientierte Nutzungen im Erdgeschoss, wie Cafés und Gastronomieangebote am Dialogplatz. Diese Anpassungen sollen die Aufenthaltsqualität und die Einbindung in die Lokstadt fördern.Ein Ziel, das auch der Stadt Winterthur wichtig ist. Der Rekurs schafft die rechtliche Grundlage, um diese Punkte sorgfältig zu prüfen, ohne den laufenden Projektplan zu gefährden.

    Keine Verzögerung trotz Rekurs
    Cham Swiss Properties zeigt sich zuversichtlich, dass der Zeitplan eingehalten wird. Bereits jetzt ist klar; Rocket & Tigerli bleiben Meilensteine für den urbanen Holzbau in der Schweiz. Das Ensemble nutzt das Potenzial des zukunftsweisenden Holzhybridbaus und steht für nachhaltige Stadtentwicklung mit hoher architektonischer Qualität. From 2030/31, around 700 researchers will have access to a state-of-the-art infrastructure here, the University of Basel announced in a press release. “With this building, we are not only creating space for excellent research, but also promoting close spatial networking between the university, clinics and industry,” Rolf Borner, Director of Infrastructure & Operations at the University of Basel, is quoted as saying in his speech at the laying of the foundation stone.

    In the new Biomedicine building, the University intends to bring together the units of the Department of Biomedicine, which are currently spread across six different locations.     Construction work on the building, which is over 40 meters high and has eleven floors, has been underway since 2023 and the shell is due to be completed next year. Together with the federal government and a private partner, the Canton of Bern is raising around CHF 400 million for the construction of the new campus.

    The Bern University of Applied Sciences will unite its Departments of Engineering and Information Technology as well as Architecture, Wood and Construction at the Biel/Bienne campus. According to the press release, the open architecture of the new site will promote interdisciplinary exchange and creative collaboration. The campus is designed as a cloverleaf of three building wings around a common centre.

    “An inspiring environment is being created here that focuses on openness, interdisciplinarity and high standards of infrastructure and quality,” said Cantonal Councillor Christoph Neuhaus, Director of Construction and Transport of the Canton of Bern, in the press release. “The new campus is being built as a modern timber construction – a project that stands for sustainable, climate-friendly construction.” Glenda Gonzalez Bassi, Mayor of Biel/Bienne, sees the future campus “as a central location for the development of our region, for the education of our young generation and for attracting the talent that our economy needs now more than ever.”

A new access structure ensures a clear separation between school operations and escape routes, which enables versatile use without fire safety restrictions.

The newly designed square with numerous trees and a water basin is reminiscent of the site’s history as a former spa hotel.     Construction method and energy supply
    The new building fulfils the high sustainability standards and is certified according to SNBS and Minergie-A. Heating is provided by a groundwater heat pump, which also enables recooling in summer.     The Bergdietikon municipal council has given the green light for the construction of a retirement and care centre in the Hintermatt area, according to a statement from the Oase Group. Retirement flats and care places are to be built there. The building permit is expected to come into legal force at the end of May, according to the municipality’s press release.

    Planning for the Hintermatt retirement and care centre in the Kindhausen district of Bergdietik has been ongoing for around twelve years, according to the press release. It began with a municipal assembly and the sale of the land in Hintermatt to Oase Holding AG in Baar ZG. Oase submitted the planning application in November 2023.

    The Oase Group, based in Dübendorf ZH, currently operates a wide range of residential concepts in the areas of retirement living, assisted living, care for people in need of care and long-term and palliative care at eight locations throughout Switzerland, according to the company. A further seven projects, including Bergdietikon, are in the planning stage.

    According to the guideline project on which the design plan is based, Oase will build a centre with around 64 retirement flats and 45 care places. Seven parties objected to the planning application. After the public consultation was completed in summer 2024, several objection negotiations took place between the developer and the objectors. The negotiations were concluded before Easter and the municipal council issued the building permit at its meeting on 22 April, according to a statement from the municipality.

    According to the plans of the municipality and the Oase Group, the new retirement and care home is set to open in the fourth quarter of 2027.
