    Young adults help shape the future of a central area

    In the municipality of Adelboden, young adults can contribute to the future use of the car park area. The municipality is organising a creative workshop in the Adelboden leisure and sports arena in cooperation with the Adelboden-Lenk-Kandersteg tourism organisation, Parkhaus AG and Hotel Adler AG to find ideas. On 19 June 2026, 80 young adults up to the age of 35 are invited to develop concrete proposals for a structural redesign. Interested parties can register until 5 June.

    According to a press release, approaches that go beyond the “classic planning logic” are in demand. The municipality is keen to make young people’s opinions on the future of their living environment visible. After all, “they make a valuable contribution to the long-term development of the village as a liveable residential and attractive tourist destination”. Before feasibility studies are commissioned, a “broad range of ideas” is required.

    Two options will be actively included and discussed in the “transparent, democratically supported” process: a panorama square with a view of the mountains and an adventure pool with existing development plans. There is also room for further and new concepts. The best project ideas will be professionally visualised, publicly exhibited and then examined in consultation with the local population and tourism stakeholders.

    Capo San Martino is one of the most spectacular lakeside locations in Switzerland. The headland south of Paradiso lies between two municipalities, has an eventful history and had been left to decay for years. When the property came up for sale, Constantin said he took immediate action. What has lain fallow for years is now to become a place to walk, linger and breathe.

    What is planned
    Around 100 beds, panoramic rooms, catering, wellness and a spa with a direct view of the lake are planned. The Lugano-based firm Mino Caggiula Architects is responsible for the design. For the architect, the aim is to revitalise a piece of landscape and history. Construction is scheduled to start in early 2027, with the opening planned for spring 2030 if everything goes according to plan.

    The hurdles are real
    Before a stone can be laid, the project requires a zoning plan amendment. This must be approved by the city parliament and the cantonal government. Historic pollution, environmental issues and public perception at such an exposed location can quickly become decisive influencing factors. Constantin is confident. However, observers describe the timetable as very optimistic.

    What the project means
    For Ticino, Capo San Martino is more than just a property project. It is revitalising the debate about Lugano as a high-quality tourism location. In a market that is increasingly focussing on international profile and quality of experience, iconic projects are a potential lever. At the same time, the pressure on all those involved is increasing. Spectacular images are not enough; viable concepts for operation, development and political acceptance are required.

    Lighthouse or castle in the air
    Whether Capo San Martino actually becomes a lighthouse project depends on more than 100 million francs. The project must prove that it can fit into a challenging topographical and political context. If it succeeds, Constantin will indeed write a new chapter for this place and Ticino will write a new chapter for its tourism.

    Historic hotel complex is being repositioned in stages

    Halter AG aims to breathe new life into the listed Sonnenberg complex in Seelisberg. The Schlieren-based property developer is currently in the process of gradually redeveloping the historic hotel complex, Halter states in a post on LinkedIn. According to the project description, the Hotel Sonnenberg is to remain as the core building and will once again be used as a hotel upon completion.

    In the former Hotel Kuhn, which will also remain largely unchanged, Halter plans to create apartments. Further apartments are to be built in two new buildings south of the hotel. Existing additional buildings to the north will be repurposed and incorporated into the hotel complex.

    The historic hotel complex attracted international attention in the 1970s. At that time, the Sonnenberg complex had been acquired by the Transcendental Meditation movement. From 1972 onwards, and for more than three decades, the Grandhotel Sonnenberg served as the headquarters of the movement led by the guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Felice Zenoni’s documentary Namaste Seelisberg, screened for the first time at the 61st Solothurn Film Festival, explores this era. Halter supported the film project and facilitated filming on the site.

    According to a statement, HGC, a building materials supplier operating throughout Switzerland, is relocating its Lucerne site. This move is in response to the development of the former industrial area of Tribschen into a central urban district.

    HGC already relocated its regional transport business to its new site in Inwil last September. The company will also serve all its regional customers from there over the next two years.

    The old site in Tribschen is being converted. The old building at Tribschenstrasse 7/9 was demolished last year. The new Boutiquehotel 6000 is being built here. The new headquarters of the Central Swiss Builders’ Association will be located in the attic.

    The building on the neighbouring property at Tribschentrasse 11 will be converted using the existing supporting structure. The upper five floors will be rented out as offices under the name Tribschen Office. Half of the space has already found tenants. A commercial enterprise and the HGC collection business will be set up on the ground floor.

    HGC has been using the Tribschen site since the early 1920s. The complete renovation and conversion will allow it to benefit from the development of the neighbourhood.

    HGC was founded as a cooperative in 1899 and has its headquarters in Zurich. It trades in building materials and related products. It belongs to its more than 3,000 cooperative members in all construction sectors.

    The city of Baden has become a new member of the European Historic Thermal Towns Association (EHTTA). According to a statement, its aim is not only to raise awareness of the importance of Baden’s thermal springs, which date back to Roman times, at a European level, but also to foster exchanges with other spas.

    Membership facilitates joint projects in cultural, health and medical tourism. With its membership, Baden is positioning itself “clearly as a modern cultural and spa town with international appeal,” Mayor Markus Schneider is quoted as saying in the press release.

    TourismusRegion Baden AG is responsible for the operational implementation. “EHTTA membership is much more than just a label for Baden,” Andrea Portmann is quoted as saying. “It is a strategic tool for further developing our positioning in the international market and establishing new partnerships in the field of medical and health tourism,” says the managing director of TourismusRegion Baden.

    The EHTTA is delighted to welcome Baden as a new member. “Baden is an important spa town with a strong history and a clear vision for the future,” says Riccardo Mortandello, EHTTA President and Mayor of Montegrotto Terme.

    The more than 50EHTTA members in 20 countries now include Baden-Baden and Baden bei Wien, as well as Budapest, Karlsbad, Spa, Vichy and Viterbo.

    Parahotellerie drives overnight stays in Spiez to new record high

    Tourism in Spiez reached a new record in 2025 with 198,000 overnight stays. However, according to a statement by Spiez Marketing AG (SMAG), this is solely attributable to growth in the non-hotel sector. This sector increased its overnight stays by 35 per cent to 63,000. At the same time, overnight stays in hotels fell by 2.5 per cent to 135,000.

    More than half of the overnight stays were attributable to visitors from Switzerland. China followed with a share of 9 per cent, Germany with 7 per cent and the USA with 5 per cent. Visitors from Switzerland accounted for 15 per cent of the non-hotel sector, followed by China with 11 per cent, the USA with 10 per cent and Germany with 9 per cent.

    The increase in overnight stays brings with it challenges. Last spring, the municipal council commissioned the local location promoter SMAG to set up a working group. Representatives from politics, the population, the hotel industry and para-hotels, as well as retailers and other tourism professionals, were tasked with identifying these challenges and finding solutions. The resulting 2026 action plan is now to be implemented.

    “It is not our goal to chase overnight stay records,” said Stefan Seger, managing director of Spiez Marketing AG, in the press release. The promotion of tourism should not be at the expense of residents. “We are committed to tourism that is as sustainable as possible.”

    In January, the Swissôtel hotel chain announced the opening of a new hotel in the Czech spa town of Mariánské Lázně. According to UNESCO, Mariánské Lázně is one of Europe’s most important spa towns. According to a press release, the new hotel, together with the recently opened hotels in Montenegro and Romania, will consolidate Swissôtel’s strong presence in Europe. Swissôtel is part of the French Accor Group.

    “The Swissôtel Mariánské Lázně is a landmark opening for our brand in Central Europe,” said Jean Wendling, Vice President Operations Management at Accor, in the press release. “We are presenting a hotel that combines Swiss joie de vivre with the unique character of the city and offers both holidaymakers and business travellers a first-class experience based on well-being and balance.”

    Swissôtel Mariánské Lázně has 102 rooms, 22 suites and a presidential suite. The hotel also offers a variety of culinary options. These include the 105 Dining Lounge, the Swiss Café and the Pod Oblaky rooftop bar. Guests also benefit from the hotel’s own spa and sports area. For business travellers and events, the hotel has four versatile rooms, a conference room and an area for cocktail receptions and presentations.

    Christinger AG from Brugg supported SV Group AG from Dübendorf with the interior design of its new hotel in Zurich. Moxy Zurich is a 162-room hotel located next to the Letzigrund Stadium. According to apress release, Christinger was responsible for part of the interior design, including large-scale images, lettering and various signage elements. The Christinger team used AI (artificial intelligence) tools for many elements of the image design.

    The Moxy is located at Badenerstrasse 537 and opened at the end of 2025. According to a statement from the SV Group, the hotel combines trend-conscious design with energetic hospitality and urban lifestyle.

    “Moxy stands for uncomplicated hospitality, modern design and a good dose of joie de vivre,” Marco Meier, Managing Director of SV Hotel, is quoted as saying in the press release. “With the new Moxy Zurich, we are creating a place that brings people together, whether they are travelling for business or pleasure.”

    The Hotel Bernerhof Gstaad has new owners. According to a statement, Brigitte and Thomas Frei have sold their majority stake in Hotel Berner AG to asset manager RMG THE RISK MANAGEMENT GROUP (SUISSE) SA in Geneva and investment and holding company Holdingstone SA in Zug. The sale price has not been disclosed.

    Over three decades, the Frei couple developed the Bernerhof into a renowned luxury and gourmet hotel. It has 46 rooms and suites in various categories and four award-winning restaurants. “After all these years as owners and managers of the Bernerhof, we are happy to hand over this living legacy to a group that is driven by a positive and ambitious vision for the Bernerhof and for Gstaad,” the couple are quoted as saying. They are particularly pleased that François Grohens took over the operational management at the beginning of December.

    Grohens, 55, previously worked at the Bernerhof from 2002 to 2011 before moving to Park Gstaad. He has served as director there for the past six years. Stints in the USA and on cruise ships brought the Frenchman to Switzerland in 1997 and to Gstaad in 2000. According to reports, his focus is on “preserving the Bernerhof as a warm, familiar place for regular guests, while inspiring new guests with the quality of the service, the restaurants and the lively atmosphere”.

    Jean-Guillaume Pieyre, founder and CEO of RMG, thanks Brigitte and Thomas Frei “for the trust they have placed in us”. Together with Emmanuel Kilchenmann, Vice President of Holdingstone, he wants to promote a project “that treats Gstaad and the region with respect and shares the vision of a lively village centre all year round”.

    Heller Gastro AG will open its newly renovated and converted Eiger Lodge Grindelwald on 19 December 2025. The work centred on the renovation of the Eiger Lodge “Easy”, the older of the two buildings that form part of the Eiger Lodge. It was modernised between April and December. According to a press release, the investment volume totalled 4.5 million Swiss francs. The two hotel sections “Easy” and “Chic”, located directly beneath the north face of the Eiger, offer a total of 220 beds.

    according to the statement, 70 per cent of the order volume was carried out with local companies, while the remaining 30 per cent was carried out with companies from Bern and the Bernese Oberland. The new breakfast area now offers more space and large window fronts with mountain views. New kitchen facilities are intended to simplify processes behind the scenes. The reception and entrance area has also been completely refurbished. A sauna has been installed on the upper floor. An adjoining terrace is still under construction. The communal showers, which are part of the “Easy” multi-bed, double and family rooms, have also been completely renovated.

    The hotel has been the base for numerous mountain enthusiasts since the 1990s under the name Mountain Hostel. in 2015, it was taken over by Heller Gastro and renamed the Eiger Lodge. The company also operates the Eiger Mountain & Soul Resort Grindelwald on site.
